Rca Rc59I Clock Radio with Ipod Dock Review

Rca Rc59I Clock Radio with Ipod Dock
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I saw this for sale at a local store, so I thought I would do some digging for information. Unfortunately, there is almost zero. It doesn't say it anywhere online or on the box, but this will indeed charge your iPhone 3G. It's possible that they did not want to pay for licensing. Since it will charge the 3G, it should charge all of the new non-firewire iPods (Nano 5G, etc).
It's nice and compact, but certainly sturdy. Once you take a leaf through the instruction manual, it's very easy to use. Not one of those things I recommend to start pushing buttons feet-first, because you'll probably be woken up at 2:30am by accident.
What else can I say about it? It charges my iPhone, plays pretty well (a 5.1 system this isn't), has an aux-in for a Zune, etc, has dual-alarms with 3-4 different options each. If you're looking for a cheap replacement for your firewire-charging alarm clock, this is a good choice.

Kensington FM Transmitter/Auto Charger for iPod (White) Review

Kensington FM Transmitter/Auto Charger for iPod (White)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Bottom line, unacceptable for me, although it might possibly work in your car. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and I drive a Mercedes E class. I also tried this unit in a friend's Nissan Sentra with identical results to those reported here.
This unit is, in essence, a tiny FM radio station that uses the connecting wire for the unit as the FM transmission antenna. In theory, this mini station transmits from inside your car to your car's FM antenna where the signal is picked up and listened to on your car's radio like any other radio station. This unit allows you to transmit on the frequencies 88.1 MHz through 88.7 MHz inclusive and 107.1 MHz through 107.7 MHz inclusive. In my area at least half of these frequencies are "blank" which I define as tuning to the frequency and receiving only white noise and no trace of a signal from any station.
I hooked up the unit, which was easy, and leaving out a lot of experimentation, I got no meaningful reception in the 88.x MHz range. I tried the upper reaches of the band in the 107.x MHz range and got the unit to work as well as it would work at 107.5 MHz.
I distinguish between two problems: the quality of the FM transmission, and the sound quality once the signal is received by the car's radio. For my car, the FM transmission is simply unworkable. There is a constant, obtrusive, background noise which I would describe as white noise; this noise can be lessened by moving the unit around but not eliminated to the point that it is not obtrusive. The general effect was as if listening to a distant FM station where the signal is starting to fade out to the point that background noise is coming through and interfering with the sound. I tried a number of different placements of the unit all over the car. There were moments - but only moments - where the unit worked flawlessly. In a way those few moments only made the overall effect more frustrating since they seemed to indicate that this technology could work but it wasn't working for me.
The sound quality, apart from the background noise, was quite good, at least as good as an FM transmission. Fussy as I am about sound, I found the sound quality - as separate from the noisy transmission - to be perfectly fine and as good as any other in-car sound source. This is one of those really frustrating situations where we all want to buy this product if only it would work.
How do we reconcile the differing reviews of these products - some of which are downright laudatory and some, like mine, highly critical? I think the difference must relate to the individual auto's FM system. In different cars the antenna will be in different locations relative to the placement of the unit; further, the FM signal shielding provided by the car's metal frame will vary according to the car's construction and the relative location of the car's antenna. Also, specifications like noise rejection and signal strength sensitivity will vary depending on the type and quality of the radio provided in various makes of car. So, my suggestion would be: 1) reviewers state the make and year of your car to create an information resource; 2) find a way to try this thing out before you buy it: if it works in your car, and it probably won't, you will be happy.

This Kensington FM transmitter/auto charger transmits your iPod tunes through your car stereo while simultaneously charging its battery, making it a versatile two-in-one bargain. The unit includes such features as red and green LED indicators that signal the transmitting and charging states, phase-lock-loop technology that easily connects with one of eight FM channel options, and ClearFM technology, which provides crisp highs, deep lows, and up to 50 dB of stereo separation. Adding to the topnotch sound quality is Kensington's patented Aerielle wireless technology, which ensures premium sound with far less background hiss than other FM transmitters. And even though the transmitter/charger is designed for the car, the transmitter portion also works inside the home, with a range of up to 15 feet. Compatible with any iPod with a dock connector--including the iPod nano 1G, iPod nano 2G, iPod mini, iPod 3G, iPod 4G (Click Wheel), iPod color, and iPod 5G/5.5G Video--the Kensington FM transmitter/charger is backed by a five-year warranty.

Creative Labs Sound Blaster Wireless Audio Transmitter and Receiver Bundle Review

Creative Labs Sound Blaster Wireless Audio Transmitter and Receiver Bundle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)

Having used a myriad of devices from the squeezboox boom and the squeezebox duet system -- as well as a few other devices that are not worth mentioning, I'll say that this is by far the easiest to use, install and operate.
Let me walk you through my set-up ... which took about 10 minutes ...
1. Unpacked the box and did away with all the plastic detritus.
2. Installed and registered the software on my laptop.
3. Plugged in the transmitter to a USB port in the back.
4. Rebooted my laptop, turned on iTunes and played a U2 album.
5. Plugged in the receiver (using a nicer set of cables) to my Sony Stereo Receiver on Aux 3. Was tempted to go optical.
6. Hit the find button on the underside of the little device and walked away.
7. 15 seconds later -- music played.
8. Stuck the batteries in the remote and turned it up.
That simple and absolutely no stumbling blocks to speak of.
Sound Quality? -- Better than I expected for this, but I wasn't looking for Mark Levinson to come out of my office and sit down on the couch with a glass of wine. The sound quality is more than adequate for casual home listening and the better your system is, the better the device will sound to you.
Responsiveness? -- I'm constantly unplugging the transmitter from my laptop and taking off somewhere, only to come back replug it back in, and find it working almost instantly and flawlessly. Windows and iTunes are not always asking questions or looking for drivers. It seems that whatever iTunes needed to do to make this thing be compatible with itself, was worked out ahead of time by Creative Labs and Apple. That's a first.
The Software -- is quite good and quite simple. You can customize it to play in zones, if that's your thing or adjust the quality of the sound and other minor changes. The software, from what I saw, doesn't appear to be a resource hog, nor has it been the culprit of crashes or bluescreens. If you don't use iTunes , you don't like to, or don't want to, this may be the only *real* problem one could face. The good thing is that it doesn't require you to depend on it as a player like other companies, or other devices do.
I can find no fault with this and I'm happy with the success of this device. I use it everyday now and I'm thoroughly pleased.
Well done ... a great idea to give as a gift for young or old as the ease of use with this is simple and the learning curve low. How about that for innovation?

Griffin SmartDeck Intelligent Cassette Adapter with Dock Connector for iPod (White) Review

Griffin SmartDeck Intelligent Cassette Adapter with Dock Connector for iPod (White)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I really, really wanted to like this product, but it was not to be. I bought it for use with my '05 Toyota Sienna. Here is a structured list of comments, marked + or -:
(+) Compatibility: the cassette drive accepted the product without spitting it back out. So far, so good.
(-) Appearance: white looks good in the package, but a bad, bad choice in the car. That white cable is pretty ugly hanging down from the cassette drive and I think it advertises to potential thieves that there might be an iPod in the car.
(+) Auto-play: the adaptor is supposed to start the iPod when the cassette starts. This worked fine.
(+) Auto-stop: the adaptor is supposed to stop the iPod when the cassette stops. This worked fine.
(-) Auto-forward: the adaptor is supposed to skip the iPod forward a track when the cassette fast-forwards. This didn't work.
(-) Auto-reverse: the adaptor is supposed to skip the iPod backward a track when the cassette rewinds. This didn't work.
(-) Reliability: the day after I bought it started emitting very loud static that made the music almost inaudible. I returned it for a replacement.
(-) Sound quality: very, very poor. This is really the deal breaker. Low-level static afflicted both the original unit and the replacement. This really shocked me. My generic cassette adaptor was much better than this. And so, the smartdeck went into the trash and I've resumed using the generic adaptor.
(-) Conclusion. I would strongly recommend against buying this product. I can't imagine how Griffin can justify selling it. It will be a long time before I consider buying anything more from them.

Coby CA-745 Wireless FM Car Transmitter with Digital Display and DC Car Cigarette Lighter Adapter Review

Coby CA-745 Wireless FM Car Transmitter with Digital Display and DC Car Cigarette Lighter Adapter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Coby-745 is in my opinion, the all-around best buy in the wireless FM car transmitter market. At $17.99 on Amazon, it is roughly half the price of most of it's competitors, but what's amazing is that it provides additional features! The cap on the built in car charger flips off to reveal a spot for another charging plug (like for a cell phone for example). The springs hold the device in tightly while in use and the charger unit is hinged to the transmitter, providing for a 360 degree+ rotation of the unit. The light up screen in blue shows the full frequency channels you can select from with the lighted dial, in increments of 0.1 MHz.
This unit doesn't just look pretty and have nice features, it also performs extremely well. On a 40 minute commute through back roads, highway and city, the unit didn't lose signal once and I heard ZERO interference, yes, that's right, none! Compare that to other reviews.
Downsides? All the downsides are common to most other transmitters: it doesn't have an on/off button, so you have to unplug the unit if you want it to stop drawing power. To get the sound just right, you have to crank the treble on your car stereo a tad (although this just may be a personal preference). And, you have to crank the volume on your mp3 player and/or stereo (and remember to turn the volumes back down when you use your stereo or mp3 player without the transmitter or else risk blowing out your eardrums). There was some static noise when handling the unit initially although I found this went away quickly as the static charge (coming from the user) dispersed.
The sound quality amazes me- very near CD quality sound- and I was very pleased there was no interference- in the 40 minutes driving, I never had to switch channels. As long as it holds up, I don't plan on switching transmitters anytime soon either. The Coby-745 rocks.

Soundfly-i Ultimate iPod / iPhone 4, 3G, 3Gs Auto-scan Fm Transmitter Charger with RDS & Remote Control Review

Soundfly-i Ultimate iPod / iPhone 4, 3G, 3Gs Auto-scan Fm Transmitter Charger with RDS and Remote Control
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I like the design of this product very much, but it suffers from a fatal flaw. The transmitter is weak. This is in direct conflict with what other reviews say. Also, the unit only broadcasts from 88.1-107.9 -- other websites and the back of the packaging claim its capable of 87.6 to 107.9.
From this, I think I know why the transmitter is so weak. Apparently, this unit originally did not comply with FCC regulations and probably was a very strong transmitter that could do the full FM frequency. At some point, apparently very recently, the FCC probably forced Satechi to remedy this and now it can no longer do 87.6-88.0 and no longer broadcast a signal powerful enough to be received from more than 6 yards out as the FCC requires.
If you look at reviews on Amazon, you'll notice the FM transmitters made by companies you've never heard of all get the high 5 star reviews while the ones made by big name brands (like Monster and Belkin) get absolutely trashed in the reviews. This is because ANY FM transmitter that actually complies with FCC regulations is garbage in a large city with heavy airwave saturation. The cheap chinese ones rarely comply with these regulations cause they constantly change brand names, anyways. The bigger players usually do play the by the rules and their products suffer as a result.
In this case, I suspect Satechi has recently been forced to start playing by the rules based on the transmitter I received. The weak signal and newly restricted (at least it appears to be a new change) frequency range are dead giveaways of this.
Sadly, that makes the unit hard to recommend. It's not Satechi's fault, but this transmitter just sucks in terms of signal strength (which means static *all* the time and an inability to broadcast "over" another signal if you can't find an empty frequency). Great design, but unless you live out in the middle of nowhere you probably won't be able to hear your music without static.

I give this a three mostly for the price the sound isnt great but decent for what you pay. I do like the fact that it is wireless so unless you are charging your ipod you dont need it pluged in. What I dont like about it is there are no buttons to pre-set so if you get static you have to fumble around til you find a clear station. If all you wanna do is listin to your ipod to and from work go ahead and get this but if you travel alot Id go with something else

iTVGoggles ITG-WideView Virtual Screen Personal Video Glasses with 2 GB Built-in Memory and Micro SD Card Slot Review

I got these as a gift, but I was familar with them before I got them. I also have the XL Edition of the ITG-WideView, which Amazon doesn't sell.
I have only had it for a few days but I have already gotten some use out of them. This device works best with another device capable of processing the video.
If you want to drop videos on the device and have them play, you have to be a fairly extreme "tech-head" to be able to use these. You have to be familar with Rip'ing DVDs, converting video formats, etc. Since the Music/Movie Industry screws with any company that comes close to making a quality ripper or converter, you have to look hard. I am using Leawo DVD Ripper and Video Converter. You may also need a product called SlySoft AnyDVD to get around DVD encryption. Getting the files in the right format is not easy either. It took me about 5 hours to figure out the right combination of settings to get a quality MP4 to run. AVIs were more difficult.
The best thing to do is a find a video you like and configure the video converter to only convert about 30 seconds of it, and then keep converting and testing until you figure out the right settings.
The 2 GB flash is a limitation, but the microSD is nice. I have a support ticket on that as I can't get the microSD card to stay in the slot. It keeps popping out about an 1/8 of an inch.
As the box says, it is "A revolution in Personal Entertainment", but it is primitive none the less.

I'm sure the dimensions are listed somewhere so I don't have anyone to blame but myself. It is much smaller than I thought it would be. When I pulled it out of the box I thought "There is NO WAY this is going to be loud enough". I wanted it as a jukebox location in my living room where I could hear it throughout the house while I went about my daily business. However, I am pleasantly surprised that this thing manages to do just fine in getting quality sound to several rooms in my house. It isn't as big as I thought, but it's just as loud as I thought with virtually no distortion.
I'm very happy with my purchase.

I bought this on a whim after having the FM Modulator I had installed last week removed from my '03 Jetta because the sound was pathetic. (Really upsettingly bad.) I really didn't expect much, but thought it was worth a try at the price. I could not be happier! I don't have any of the whirry, clicky noises others mention, unless I've turned my iPod off while the adapter is still in the cassette deck, and even then it's not terribly noisy. The sound is surprisingly crisp and the highs and lows are clean and distinct--unike the awful experience I had with the modulator. I don't know whether the quality will deteriorate over time, but at $12, if I have to replace it now and then it's worth it. (Much cheaper than replacing my car stereo, like the car audio salesguy told me I'd have to do.) If you have a cassette deck, try it. You'll be amazed.

I am currently deployed with the US Armed Forces and do not have the freedom to actually have a stereo or extensive speaker arrangement in my current living situation. Because of that, this product has quickly become my new best friend! I consider myself an audiophile, and I was wary about a small, cheaply priced speaker case. However, even at top volume, it delivers surprisingly crisp, robust sound for only having the one small speaker, battery life is much better than I had hoped for, and it serves as a perfect carrying case/protector for my iPod. The case is a perfect size as well, small enough to fit comfortably into a cargo pocket. I honestly cannot find any fault with these speakers, and would highly recommend them for anyone who is an outdoor enthusiast, but can't leave their music behind.

These little speakers are great! I was just using some extra money on a gift card and decided to order these. I was pleasantly surprised at how well they sound... Obviously, they don't sound like Bose speakers, but then again, they are 1% of the cost... I actually liked them so much I order 2 more sets as backups... They are great for us to take on vacation to the beach, take out on our deck and by the pool.... we have a lot of fun with them. The battery life is good, the only draw back is they do not come with an AC Adaptor. Other than that, I think this is a great product for the price....

I bought the icon 2's abel high card's. The design is pretty sweet, i personaly like plainer designs but they were cheaper when i bought them and i like them alot. The sound quality is pretty good, better than headphones you would get from walmart but the bass is definetly not not the great. You can still hear the bass, but if you are trying to listen to dubstep or anything with alot of bass you might not like them. They are pretty comfertable, the head strap is softer than i thought it would be and not just a piece of hard plastic sitting on your head, and the ear padding is pretty good. They seem a little flexible so unless you don't care about your belongings or you eat it hard, right on your head when you are on the mountain then they should hold up. The cord is preety cool and feels like a rope material rather than just plastic, maybe to protect the cord better, idk. Some people also complained that unless you are wearing a beanie they don't stay on well and that they are also kind of tight. I have a small head so they aren't overly tight or anything and fit pretty well, so unless you are jumping around and whipping your head back and forth like crazy they should stay on pretty well, you might have to make them a little smaller so they are higher on their head but not by much. Overall they were definetly worth the price i paid for them and i plan on having them for awhile.
