Yamaha PDX-60BL Speaker Dock for iPod and iPhone, 1 Each (Black) Review

Yamaha PDX-60BL Speaker Dock for iPod and iPhone, 1 Each (Black)
Average Reviews:

This is the next generation of iPod sound docks! I own a Logitech and a Bose sound dock. They both have their good and bad points, but neither of them offers the capability of this product...namely, the ability to have complete control of all iPod functions, using the iPod itself, at a remote distance from the sound box. The remote controls on all other units serve mainly as volume controllers, with the user having to approach the sound box to see what's going on on the iPod's screen. And though this is obviously anecdotal, I would testify that the Yamaha's sound quality outstrips both my Bose Sound Dock II, which has the typical Bose "muffled," soft, basey, quality, and my Logitech PureFi II, which has very good crisp sound at low levels but rapidly loses quality as the volume goes up (and has other well-documented issues as well). The Yamaha appears to have a wide frequency range and the ability to hold the sound quality with increased volume. The Yamaha also offers you the option to plug your iPod directly into the sound box itself, as you do with other brands, and use the separate, included hand-held to control the functions if you prefer. All is not perfect. If I am not mistaken, the hand-held transmitter, which hold your iPod, is RF (radio frequency) operated, but responds in a line-of-site manner, akin to an infrared system. If you block the transmitter with an obstruction, even your own body, the sound will be disrupted. Still, this is a minor limitation, considering the complete control available. This was a gift purchase for my spouse, but it is so impressive I wouldn't be surprised to see one appearing for my own use in the future. Kudos Yamaha! (note that this product is only compatible with later generation iPod models which use USB connectors)

Chill Pill Mobile Speakers iPod/MP3 Players and Laptops (Black) Review

Chill Pill Mobile Speakers iPod/MP3 Players and Laptops (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First things first: Don't expect high fidelity sound out of these tiny speakers - this product is all about convenience. Everything needed to operate the device stays with it, including the audio cables and built in rechargeable battery.
The only exception, and this is a big one, is that the USB charging functionality requires a separate and easy-to-lose mini-usb gender changing cable (included in the box). It's simply not possible to plug the device directly into a computer without some sort of adapter or additional cable. Most computers don't have a mini-usb connector.
That disappointment aside, these are very innovative portable speakers. I hope the manufacturers will find a way to integrate the charging cable into future versions.

I wasn't expecting much sound from one little speaker, but I'm impressed. It's no Bose of course, but it will be perfect out on my kayak! I'll take great comfort knowing my Zune is so well protected.
After using it several times out on the water, I still give it 5 stars. When the batteries get low, it sounds like the speaker has blown. Put fresh batteries in and sounding good again. I use rechargable to save money and better performance. I can't tell you how many have stopped me on the river asking how I have tunes on my kayak!

Altec Lansing 2-PC USB & AC POWERED PORTABLE ( XT2 ) Review

Altec Lansing 2-PC USB and AC POWERED PORTABLE ( XT2 )
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These are the best sounding portable USB speakers I've heard. I also love the flat style of the speakers and case. It makes it easy to pack into a laptop case or a suitcase for portability.
They're made of a sturdy plastic with aluminum grills and flip-under stands, which makes them very durable - important if you travel. I've never used the auxiliary input, so I can't comment as to how well it works with a portable audio device.
The biggest con for me is the lack of a headphone jack. When these speakers are connected to your laptop, it disables the built-in speakers and sound card (naturally). To switch to headphones, you have to disconnect the USB connection, then close and relaunch whatever application you're using with audio. It's a minor nuisance, but enough for me to take away a star. Another minor nuisance is the fact that it disables the use of any hard volume control buttons you have on your laptop, and volume is controlled either via the speaker itself, or through your control panel. Again, the workaround is to not use the USB cable and connect from your computer's headphone out into the auxiliary input, but that requires an extra cable in addition to the USB or AC cable, which defeats half the purpose of USB speakers.
A good buy to me. Well worth the money, but before buying you should be aware of the two issues stated above. If using headphones and hard volume controls are not that important to you, this is the ultimate buy.

I purchased this several months ago when my husband mentioned it would make a great christmas gift. I wasn't able to reveiw it until now because he didn't open it until Christmas Day. He just LOVES it. It is perfect for so many applications. We took it to our family Christmas party and played our background music on it. We can use it when we go to bluegrass jams. It is so light, portable, and puts out a great sound. Thanks so much.

I ordered the miniblaster (2nd generation) for my husband for Christmas and it has incredible sound. I wanted to keep it for myself! The sound was awesome for such a compact portable unit. I thought he could use it while getting ready for work and bouncing from room to room w/o hooking and unhooking his IPod Nano. I love the fact it also comes w/ an adapter to save battery life. I just wish it came in other colors.....great job and great price. I can't wait till this Summer and try it at the beach!

Average Reviews:

I have an iPhone 3Gs and a mackbook pro, but both of their speakers' audio quality are mediocre. With Satechi sd pocket speakers, bass is more powerful and the sound is more clear. Having the sd reader option is great, since I can keep my iPhone with me while the music is playing. The built quality so far looks very good, I will add on to this review if I see a problem. Overall,
+ Basic operation, manual is necessary to figure out button functions (one button does everything)and led light indications
+ In closed position, it is pretty small, really can fit into the pocket.
++ Powerful bass, loud and clear sound, much much better than iPhone speakers
++ Rechargeable, also while charging, I can add music to my sd card.
++ Could able play music from 32GB sd card
+ Can be used as an mp3 player with earphones
- Design takes some time getting used to
- Unable to fast forward the songs

Hello everyone! Here is a quick video review of SimplyVibe SV-X6. Honestly, I don't know all technical information, but I made this video because I wanted buyers to see how much I like the sound quality with the SV-X6 over the stock iPad speakers.
Much like my previous video review of the SV-S350P, I really like this unit a lot. Sound quality is equally good between the two, but this one is packed with features. It plays music from SD cards, USB thumb drives, and any mp3 players. But it also does radio and it can record sound to your card too. I honestly think this is one of the best small, portable, affordable, and good looking speakers out in the market currently. As for the sound quality, please take a look at the video and see for yourselves. In my opinion, it can't be beat at it's size and price.
Thanks guys for looking at my video review! I think I'm really getting the hang of making these videos. Hopefully, I can do more video reviews in the future! Thanks!

Philips BTM630 Bluetooth Wireless Micro Hi-Fi System with iPod Docking Station Review

Philips BTM630 Bluetooth Wireless Micro Hi-Fi System with iPod Docking Station
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Just got this the other day. Here are my thoughts:* Gadgetry
Okay, this thing has all the technology - It's got bluetooth connectivity, including the ability to play music from another device wireless and answer phone calls (built-in mic). It has an SD card slot, and a USB slot for other devices (haven't tried this out yet). It has an iPod dock. It'll even rip your CDs. I haven't seen anything on the market with this many options.
* Ease of Use (Interface)
This is where things start to go a bit off. It's not the easiest device to use. The display doesn't show the most relevant information. For example, if you're looking at it in bluetooth mode, it just keeps repeating the words "BLUETOOTH" in caps on the screen. But that's redundant because I already know that fact due to the big flashing blue light in the corner. Also, though this thing looks like a clock radio, it doesn't function very well as one (it rarely shows the time throughout the various functions - alarm is hard to set).
* Sound
It's fair - Not a whole lot of bass, mids are a little muddy, highs are very nice. Having said that, I don't have a comparable reference - I'm comparing it to my home stereo system and the bose wave radio.
* Quality / How's it Look
A good looking device - Definitely doesn't look cheap. It's got a big back end on it, but overall isn't too large. Fits on my nightstand just fine. The buttons are a little plasticky.
* In Summary
I'm going to continue using it - if only because there's no stereo out there that has this mix of features. I bought a bluetooth adapter for my ipod touch. It's very cool that I can be sitting anywhere in my bedroom and picking music. And if it runs short on batteries, I can drop it right into the ipod dock. But... I'm going to have to dig my 15-year-old clock radio out of the closet.

iPod speaker systems come in many shapes and sizes, but few are quite as handy as the MiniBlaster G2 from JLab Audio. Designed expressly for the iPod nano 2G, this ultra-portable black stereo speaker fits right in your short pocket, letting you haul along crystal-clear sound to the beach, to the campsite, and just about anywhere else. In short, it turns your iPod nano into a legitimate boombox, but in a housing that measures only 1.75 by 4 by 1.25 inches (W x H x D). The system includes a custom silicone skin that holds your iPod nano 2G in place, along with a 3.5 mm extension cable and a 6-volt AC power adapter. As an alternative, you can also run the MiniBlaster G2 on four AAA batteries (not included), which power the system for up to 10 hours at maximum volume. There's no better way to share your favorite music outdoors.
The MiniBlaster G2 isn't built for big sound, but its pair of 40 mm Mylar cone drivers does the job, producing a frequency response of 450 Hz to 20 kHz. And even though it's designed for the iPod nano, it also offers a 3.5 mm auxiliary input for connecting to MP3 players, portable CD players, and other audio devices. The MiniBlaster2, which also comes in white and pink, is backed by a one-year warranty.
What's in the Box MiniBlaster G2, 6-volt power adapter, custom silicone skin, 3.5 mm stereo extension cable, user's manual.

JVC Kaboom System for Ipod Review

JVC Kaboom System for Ipod

ok.. i have been waiting for this Kaboom to finally make it to the states.. i received mine today.. some things to mention.. this is a 40 watt kaboom.. not the 52 watt older kaboom.. the side firing subs are also smaller.. if you love the deep deep bass of prior Kaboom models.. dont buy this one.. if you like moderate "in your face" mid/bass.. then this Kaboom is for you.. it's almost the same size as older kabooms.. and has a managable wieght.. so carrying it around wont break your back.. item is "MADE IN CHINA" unlike older kabooms that were solidly biult in Indonesia.. and it shows.. cheaper plastics and parts were used in this Kaboom..
item lacks the durable shoulder strap/remote holder from previous Kabooms.. it's now a funky strap/plastic lachy thingy.. it also does not come with batteries for the remote.. a sign of cheapness.. is it worth $300? nope.. $150-$180 perhaps.. IPOD intergration is simple at best.. it does simpe functions.. but it's not fully intergrated.. but the main reason i bought it is that it protects the IPOD from damage.. this it does well.. i did not try the USB input.. but i'm sure it works as intended..
bottom line.. if you want the BASS that Kabooms were known for.. this will not fill that void.. stick with the older units
but if you want a nice compact carry anywhere self contained boombox for your IPOD this will do fine.. it does get plenty loud..
sign of the times.. the day of quality electronics is no more..

For just over thirty bucks, which is half of its MSRP, this thing is a marvelous value...I was just looking for portability, portability, and portability. Not expecting any incredible sound quality, other than a noticeable improvement over my laptop's built in speakers...and this baby delivers in spades!
Beautiful design and a shocking amount of power (volume) and bass despite its tiny size and lack of an independent AC power supply. Of course this is not going to compete with higher quality powered monitors like the M-Audio Studiophile 40 but hey that baby costs at least four times as much and is almost four times bulkier. Of course it's not going to remotely compete with my audiophile bookshelf speakers and TA amp. Of course you're not going to throw a party with this thing. But for nearfield listening or background listening, or watching a movie or TV, especially when you're travelling, it more than gets the job done and is far more comfortable than wearing headphones.
My only wish is that this came with some sort of clips so that I could rest the speaker on top of my laptop's monitor. Might have to go buy some velcro tape, perhaps. The sound IS tons better if you can position the speaker to be at the same height, or just slightly above, your ear level.
It just kills me that this little baby puts out more or less the same, if not outright better, sound quality than that ridiculous Bose Sound Dock which costs over 10 times as much! I am ordering a second one as a gift for one of my friends, in fact.

I recently purchased this for my iPod. The description stated that an iPod can be docked but that is NOT the case. An iPod can only be played by hooking it up to the Aux jack. On the bright side, this little speaker system does sound great for it's size and it's about the cutest thing ever, but if you want something that docks your iPod, this is not the speaker for you!

Highly Compatible The iPom is compatible with most Apple iPods. Plus, thanks to the auxiliary input, it also works with MP3 players, portable game consoles, CD players, PCs, or pretty much any other audio device.
USB/SD Playback Play back your favorite MP3s from a USB thumb drive or SD card inserted in the back ports.
Humanized Touch Control Gently touch the right and left side of the iPom to raise or lower the volume, with the music controls in between.

I am currently deployed with the US Armed Forces and do not have the freedom to actually have a stereo or extensive speaker arrangement in my current living situation. Because of that, this product has quickly become my new best friend! I consider myself an audiophile, and I was wary about a small, cheaply priced speaker case. However, even at top volume, it delivers surprisingly crisp, robust sound for only having the one small speaker, battery life is much better than I had hoped for, and it serves as a perfect carrying case/protector for my iPod. The case is a perfect size as well, small enough to fit comfortably into a cargo pocket. I honestly cannot find any fault with these speakers, and would highly recommend them for anyone who is an outdoor enthusiast, but can't leave their music behind.

iLuv iSP100BLK Mini Portable Speaker for MP3 Players and iPod (Black)
Average Reviews:

I've happily ended the long search for a pocketable speaker system for my mp3 player. The iLuv iSp100 is perfect for this use - compact, fairly inexpensive, self-contained with its own micro plug. Runs on 3 AAA batteries so you don't drain your mp3 player. The speakers come with a drawstring pouch and are just the right size for pack or pocket.
The sound? First I tried Glenn Gould playing the Goldberg Variations, and found a nice range of sound - solid midrange and definitely not tinny at the high end. For contrast, I played a couple of rocking numbers by George Thorogood. Jacked to nearly full volume, the speakers produced an ample high-quality sound that belied their size and price.
Highly Recommended! I'm going to tell everyone I know about these amazing little speakers.
