Defender STEALTH1 Covert MPEG4 DVR Recording System with Built-in Color Pinhole Surveillance Camera Hidden in a Motion Sensor Review

Defender STEALTH1 Covert MPEG4 DVR Recording System with Built-in Color Pinhole Surveillance Camera Hidden in a Motion Sensor
Average Reviews:

This spy cam is so simple to use and it takes great videos on an SD memory card. You can put the camera anywhere or mount it on the wall and it will record video for over a month. The videos are in 30 second segments by date and time on the SD card. It connects to the TV with one simple cable (supplied) for viewing and you can fast forward and rewind like a VCR with buttons on the back. It can be used plugged in or can run on batteries. This would be a good nanny cam or in an area you need to monitor for security purposes. The only bad part is that it doesn't record video well in low light. So, this is a day time cam.

Mini DV VD80 Pocket Digital Video Camera with 2GB Micro SD Card Black Review

Mini DV VD80 Pocket Digital Video Camera with 2GB Micro SD Card Black

I have found that both the audio and video are excellent quality! One issue though is the durability. Of the five I have purchased, none of them are working any longer. Each has a different issue as to what went wrong with them. Now the hard part. What is the warranty, and how would one obtain parts? I have also found that the plastic clips do not hold up very well, and where would one go to buy just the clips? This is the biggest issue with these systems, otherwise they are very good.

This item is definitely NOT what I thought or was led to believe it was. From the description, I thought it was the camera but it really is only the link from 4 cameras to a computer - NOT what I wanted. Now I have to figure out how to return it & get my money back.

Swann SWA43-D6C12 Digital Wireless Camera and 4 Channel SD Recorder Review

Swann SWA43-D6C12 Digital Wireless Camera and 4 Channel SD Recorder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It took longer to unpack the camera and recorder than to set it up - literally. If you're not tech savvy, this is the camera for you. When I first installed it, the recorder kept beeping. I finally figured out it was the alarm that is triggered by motion. The problem - there was no motion! I finally turned off the alarm.
I set the camera up in the kitchen late in the evening - we're almost never there that late. The motion detection triggered every few minutes for no obvious reason. I checked the video files - around 200 of them. Only four had motion, and that was me getting a cup of coffee. The rest had ZERO motion.
Since the motion is simply on/off, the camera is not suitable for use when pointing towards trees, for example, monitoring your yard. It would constantly trigger.
If you don't care about the motion trigger, the unit is great. You can record to chip automatically when motion is detected (supposedly) or on a schedule. For example, record between 1am and 3am. It includes a 2gig CF card - the manufacturer claims a 3hr recording time.
Video quality is decent, not great. It's designed for lower resolution displays, not hidef, so looks blocky on our LCD. You can easily recognize peoples faces. I have to do some more tests and see if I can get the motion detection to work correctly. I want to use the camera by the front door - ideally the motion alarm would trigger when someone approaches the front door, and I could then switch the TV to AV input to see who's there. We have a universal remote - I programmed one of the buttons to switch to AV1. So the front door alarm goes off, I hit a button and see who's there. That was the plan - I'll see how it works out!
For another test, I set the camera on a table pointing at the inside of the front door. The door is glass, so the video is too bright - the camera does not compensate for it. Again, it continuously triggered. I called tech support - they had me point it at a wall, four feet away. It still triggered. They were at a loss. After additional testing I found the problem - in very low light, or extremely bright light, the motion detection appears to be triggered by the higher contrast pixels being transmitted. In regular light, the motion detection works fine. In dark or very bright light, the motion detection is useless.
The menu system is pretty basic, and the navigation to watch recorded videos is just a directory tree - you're better off watching the video on your computer.
Camera: Larger than expected, but not too bad. Large array of IR LED's provide light to 25'. Included stand is light duty, but will work fine if you set t up and forget it. My guess is it wall last a couple of years outside. Base has mounting holes, screws provided.
Receiver/DVR: Small, archaic menu, easy to use.
Supports NTSC and PAL. Two resolution settings, 640 x 480 / 320 x 240.
FYI, this is NOT a network camera, IP camera or web cam. It can not be hooked up to a computer (unless you have RCA audio and video inputs) - it's designed to be hooked up to a TV. The receiver supports up to 4 cameras.

TRENDnet SecurView Wireless Internet Surveillance Camera TV-IP110W (Silver) Review

TRENDnet SecurView Wireless Internet Surveillance Camera TV-IP110W (Silver)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this on a Gold Box deal and am very glad I did. First, the image quality is superb. TRENDnet supplies software to assist in setting up the camera but people with a bit of technical experience can go straight to the web interface and set things up there and there are some great features that allow you to set this camera up pretty much however you want.
All of the camera settings are configurable - brightness, contrast, saturation, frame rate, resolution, and even settings to synchronize with 50 or 60 Hz lighting or outdoors. It also supports WPA2 encryption and three levels of password-protected access. You can have it grab images based on movement (requires accessing the camera with Internet Explorer to configure that for some reason) or on a time schedule, and either have it e-mail the images or ftp them somewhere. And it supports dynamic domain name configuration so you can access the camera even if your IP address changes.
It also supports time and date stamping the images - pretty much a necessity - but it also supports accessing an NTP server to make sure the onboard clock is accurate.
And once you get the camera all set up the way you want it, you can save out the configuration file to make it a snap to reconfigure it in case you ever do a hard reset that restores all the defaults.
Not that it will matter to most, but this camera server is actually a full ARM-based computer running Linux. If you go to the TRENDnet website, besides getting the latest firmware, you can also get the source code for the camera OS for those that want to tinker.
The final issue is just the value. You are getting a video camera and a web-serving computer with both wired and wireless interfaces for this price. I'm glad I got mine and am using it to monitor my front porch for visitors and also as a way to monitor the weather at home. With multiple cameras, it's easy to monitor all sorts of things if someone wants to.

Camera and software was easy to set up, but even though I have tons of bandwidth and nothing over taxing my CPU, video was still very choppy and jerky. Tried contacting HooToo, but thye offer no support for their camera. I have a feeling it's made for them by some fly by night company. No luck seraching for any support or firmware updates. Wish I would have invested a little more money in a better name brand camera that offered better support.

Dash Mount Car Video and Sound Recorder Review

Dash Mount Car Video and Sound Recorder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pros: Camera size, good battery life, good mounting adhesive, steady image.
Cons: 50 min recording time between resets, focal range too close, usless laser aiming device, bad positioning of external power plug, tightening knob tends to loosen up, camera loop records over previous video on SD card.
The camera itself performs at advertised. The camera has a small footprint and doesn't obscure your forward view. Setup was easy (3 steps), and the mounting tape used is very dependable and is still holding well. Battery life is good (about 2.5-3 hrs), and a 12v lighter plug is included for external power. The image is very steady considering the amount of bouncing motion a typical car goes through.
The 50 min recording time is a minor inconvenience and is not noticeable during normal usage. The reset time is relatively short (a few seconds).
Unfortunately, the focal range is such that the vehicle ahead of you appears closer than it actually is (ie 30' between cars looks like 12'). This can be a detriment if the video is being used for insurance purposes (ie: following too close?).
The red laser used for positioning is pretty much useless in daylight. It also requires you to continuously hold down a button to use. This makes it impossible to accurately aim as the slightest hand movement throws off the aiming. This function is also dangerous to attempt while driving.
The external 12v power plug is located on the TOP of the unit! The bottom or rear would have been the most natural choice. Also, the tightening knob used to secure the camera to the mounting base often loosens up (road and/or engine vibration?), allowing the downward pressure of the plug to throw off the camera's aim.
Overall, the product is O.K. You'll just have to remember to:
1. Frequently tighten knob and check aiming.
2. Rely more on battery power to avoid 12v cord aiming issue.
3. Use between 1GB and 2GB card for longer continuous record times.
4. Unless needed, clear out the video images on the SD card after each
trip.
5. Give yourself plenty of room between cars to avoid perception
of "following too closely."

Q-See QSDT4PCRC 4 Channel H.264 PCI DVR Card Review

Q-See QSDT4PCRC 4 Channel H.264 PCI DVR Card
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Software sucks, constant interference trips software motion detection. Customer service is a joke. I got a quick response when e-mailed, It was infuriating it was like talking to a robot with bad English! I could get the remote monitoring working in IE8 in Windows 7 with problems, but works better in XP running IE8. I have an HTC Touch PRO (with a stock rom) the windows mobile software is incompatible I'm assuming because of the VGA screen, It might run on a QVGA screen I dont't know for sure (I Wouldn't be surprised if it didn't). The remote monitoring software works fine on an iphone. There is an unsupported (independent) app available for the android, but it crashes the SERVER every time you run the program. Bottom line this product works good for the money. But don't plan on doing any cell phone monitoring unless you have an iphone. Don't buy this unless you have set up a DVR before, and know your computers. Don't plan on contacting customer support. Well you can contact them but don't plan on it doing you any good. The product says the remote viewing software works with Windows Mobile Pro 6.1, which is the OS my phone runs. I'll include a copy of my mind numbing conversation with Q-SEE.(ME) - I bought this card to be able to monitor my dvr from my cell phone. The software than installs on my phone does not run properly. It does not display correctly. I have an HTC Touch Pro. I'm sure there are other people having this problem as well. Thank you
(Q-SEE) - Is your phone running windows mobile pro 6.5? If so you are correct there probably many others having the same problem. The card will work with mobile pro 6.1 but the factory is still working on revisions that will allow the card to work with the changes that microsoft made in 6.5. They have not given us a time frame yet for these revisions.
(ME) - No i am running 6.1 I think its because I have a vga screen and the software is native to a qvga
(Q-SEE) - Yes you are correct, you need to change the screen resolution. So is it working now ?
(ME) - Any suggestions on how to change the screen resolution on a Windows Mobile Smartphone Running windows mobile 6.1?
(Q-SEE) - need to know exact make and model of your Phone. To my knowledge, there are no settings to change vga on the phones. On my HTC Mogul running 6.1 there are no settings.
(ME) - Sprint's HTC Touch Pro Win Mo Pro 6.1
... It's been over seven business day's and I've had no response... The software version was 6.3.1.1.
Good Luck

Veho VCC003MUVIPRO Muvi Pro Micro DV Camcorder with 4 GB Micro SD
I have to say I'm very impressed with this! I previously used a large Hi8 tape cam but it's very obtrusive. I use this 99% of the time I ride my bike as it helps me review and improve my riding technique. With this cam being so small and barely visible, I can leave it mounted when I park my bike. With the optional clip, it pops right in and out and It slips right in my pocket. I can even clip it to my belt while walking and no one ever notice. Sweet!
The PRO model is true 30fps. 4Gb is sufficient because it records for 2 hours and only uses half the memory. Add a 8Gb mini SD for under $30.
The only negative is how long it takes to upload your clips to a computer.
Something this small with this much quality you can't beat!
I removed the previous video and replaced it with two different views.
The first was with the cam mounted on the tank and the second half I was able to mount it inside of my helmet. I thought it came out pretty good and my feelings remain the same about the versatility of this little camera. And it would really be nice to have the option to disable the time stamp!

GE 45227 Smart Home IntelliCorder Motion Activated Digital Door Peephole Review

GE 45227 Smart Home IntelliCorder Motion Activated Digital Door Peephole
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought my IntelliCorder because I had been experiencing some hangups and increased traffic outside my apartment door. Because my apartment complex is built like a hotel with enclosed walls and a lot of lighting in the hallway plus I can't drill any holes or didn't want to deal with any wires, I thought I would be a good candidate for this device. I installed the Intellicorder through my apartment's peephole and set it to Record where it would turn on and record activity (with sound) outside my door any time someone walked in front of it. In my case, I caught an intruder picking the lock to my apartment, entering my apartment and then locking it back up upon leaving (I am ordering a Wireless Alarm as we speak). The Intellicorder's time stamp device was good b/c it was able to tell me and the Police how long the intruder was inside and to know how long it took the intruder to pick the lock. The best parts of all was the clear picture of the intruder's face, the device was undetected by the intruder and I was able to email the police copies of the recordings (and they were pretty impressed with the device!) The only bad thing I can say about the device is that the Intellicorder produces the the recordings in an .AVI format and most Windows based computers can't read/view these types of files so you have to download the free .AVI reader from the website that GE recommends in their instructions (from divx.com) and tell other people (like the Police) how to download the reader. I wish they could enhance the next version of the Intellicorder device to choose the video format you want like .mpeg. I will post my copies of the recordings once the police moves a bit further in my case against the intruder but this device was well worth the money.

Worlds Smallest High Resolution Mini Video Camcorder (DVR), Incl. 2gb Micro SD Card and USB Card Reader Review

Worlds Smallest High Resolution Mini Video Camcorder (DVR), Incl. 2gb Micro SD Card and USB Card Reader
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently purchased one of these mini video camcorders from DBROTH. I am amazed at how good the resolution is and how easy it is to use. I am planning a vacation where I will be doing some sightseeing, driving through the mountains. I plan to use the mini camcorder to record some of the roadtrip. I recently tested it and found that if I turn my passenger-side visor down and rotate the clip up, I can clip the mini camcorder to the bottom of the visor and it provides a very good "front seat view" of my drive. The microphone picked up my voice fairly well as long as I didn't have the radio turned up. I also noticed that the microphone picked up static noise which I figured out later was the A/C vent blowing air in that direction (the microphone must be more sensitive than I expected).
I took about 30 minutes of drive-time video today and used the card reader to view the video when I was done. It was very easy. I like how small the camcorder and card reader are, I can slide them in my purse or pocket and take them with me just about anywhere.
For the money I paid and the quality of the product, I give this mini camcorder 4 out of 5 stars. The package arrived in the time promised and with the items described in the ad. I'm pleased with my purchase. I have had fun testing it and look forward to sharing my roadtrip videos after I return from vacation.
B.D. in N.C.
