Diamond XtremeSound 7.1/24 bit Sound Card ( XS71 ) Review

Diamond XtremeSound 7.1/24 bit Sound Card ( XS71 )
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I left Creative's sound blaster USB because they did not support Vista; I searched Amazon and found The Diamond by searching for "Vista sound Cards", I ordered it overnight, it arrived, but the software did not work with Vista although the generic windows driver does.
I called Diamond, because the card inside said "Do not return to vendor call us first." I did and was told, impatiently, that the box did not say Vista and that I should return it to Amazon.
So I am going to keep it, it does work, where the Creative did not. I received about half of what I thought I had bought.
Amazon showed this under a Vista search, Diamond was rude. The hassel of returning it and starting over, is too much.
So Cavet Emptor - be careful, make sure it is what you want, if it does not say Vista do not buy it no matter what the website claims.
Diamond has performed well in the past.
And, yes, I should have been more careful, I was too easily misled, by my pressing need for sound, and my desire to get on with it.
Ken

Acer AX3910-U2032 Desktop (Black) Review

Acer AX3910-U2032 Desktop (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was very nervous ordering this because of the negative reviews, especially when it arrived in a hurry with only some brown paper in the box and no bubble wrap or anything! The computer itself though was well-packed in it's own box with styrofoam packing, etc. like a new computer should be.
Because of the reviews I was also anxious about the DVD drive so I tested it right away. I burned data disks, played movies, and then I used it to burn home movies which played beautifully on my TV (it comes with DVD making software), so I would say it's absolutely fine (I even tested it by burning one DVD that was +R and one that was -R! Both worked fine!). To open and close the DVD drive, you push a button and the door opens and then the tray pops out. I am a little nervous that with so many moving parts, something could break easily, but so far it's worked fine every time (I'm careful to push the button straight-on and not let the computer wobble). I think I would just not recommend this computer if you're going to share it with kids or people who are rough on computers.
The speed of this computer is awesome!!! Such a pleasure! I've never used Windows 7 before either and despite my prejudices against Vista (lol) I really like it and it was easy to learn without even reading anything! Also, this computer comes with a very nice mouse and keyboard - the action is very smoothe on both. The keys on the keyboard are very springy so I can type "softly" and not irritate my carpal tunnel syndrome and there are numerous shortcut buttons on top which I haven't even investigated yet. On the upper right corner of the keyboard there is a wheel which controls sound volume! The mouse is high quality too - nice delicate wheel which is easy on the fingers and a very smoothe and accurate cursor movement. This Acer also picked up the internet with no problem at all.
I could only get sound from the "Line Out" jack even though this says it has 5.1 surround sound, but when I looked it up online I read that surround sound only comes out if you're playing a DVD that is designed for that kind of output (and you have surround sound speakers, which I don't!). You can select "5.1 Surround Sound" and lots of other settings in Control Panel so I think it does work (and Device Manager recognized each jack when I plugged things in, telling me a device had just been plugged into an audio jack). The line out jack is great anyway - I'm getting lots of power for loud strong bass in my music and bright trebles! I have used the sound for internet radio, Skype phone calls, playing a regular DVD, and regular internet like YouTube videos and it is powerful - I can blast it VERY loudly if I want.
Overall I'd say this is a great computer - it's silent and very very fast; the graphics look gorgeous on my Dell flat screen computer monitor (which it recognized immediately; it also recognized my external hard drives, printer and scanner immediately too with no problems), the sound is powerful and crisp. Although it has a nice small footprint, there are plenty of USB jacks (9) for my needs. I would just say that if you get this computer, be gentle with the DVD door and I think you will be very happy!

Smart Buy Nvidia Quadro FX580 Pcie 512MB 2PORT Dvi Graphics Review

Smart Buy Nvidia Quadro FX580 Pcie 512MB 2PORT Dvi Graphics
Average Reviews:

The tag line "by Hewlett Packard" should read "FOR HEWLETT PACKARD ONLY!"
This card was purchased to replace an ATI Radion Card that was failing to the point of barely usable.
I work with a dual monitor setup and use Adobe's suite of graphics programs and View 7, etc. So I needed the rendering capabilities inherent with the Quadro series cards. After a thorough explanation of my work and usage habits to Customer/Technical Support at Nvidia, (very limited gaming) they recommended the 370. Given the price, stepping up to the new FX 580 seemed like a no-brainer, and it was.
However, the only choices for card manufacturers were HP and PNY. PNY's Customer/Technical Support ratings were poor so I went with HP. It was purchased on Amazon on a Wednesday evening and it came in on Friday morning. Perfect. Unfortunately, it was not clear prior to purchase that the card was intended for HP workstations ONLY, or that use in other systems would void the warranty. My bad, should have researched that further.
Nevertheless, I installed the card anyway, and then downloaded the latest drivers from the Nvidia website and it worked fine. The card was very easy to install. It only draws 45 watts of power so there was no need to upgrade the power supply. It is also very quiet. So far the 580 has proved more than capable of handling everything that I have thrown at it with fanstatic results.

Sony Handycam DCRDVD850 DVD Hybrid Camcorder with 60X Optical Zoom (Silver) Review

Sony Handycam DCRDVD850 DVD Hybrid Camcorder with 60X Optical Zoom (Silver)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This Handycam has everything needed to be the most versatile of all of Sony's models with up-to-the-minute technology.
I originally hesitated because this only has an internal flash memory of 16 GB. However, I have a few of the sony memory sticks (4GB) Sony MSMT4G 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo (Mark2) Media and having them as an option allows me to record as much time on this unit as I could usually want. It is true that with the internal flash memory your recording time is restricted to about 11 hours. However, each 4GB of memory stick prolongs that limit by about 3.5 hours and supplements the internal flash memory.

I find the flash medium (and the memory sticks) to be preferrable to an internal hard drive (which can store 60 GB, but, are subject to mechanical failure). Although the hard drives will store 60GB, I rarely have that much to accumulate in digital footage before I dump it to my notebook, or, an external USB hard drive. 11 hours of storage is about perfect for a day of interviews and miscellaneous recording.
This unit is a very nice, attractive, two-tone gunmetal and silver finish. It is slightly larger than the (very compact) DCR 47-87 series.Sony DCR-SR47 Hard Disk Drive Handycam? Camcorder (Silver) However, it will still almost fit in the palm of your hand.
The images are sharp quality, indoors or out. It is true (for a change) that the unit allows for one-button record to DVD. You can just slip a mini DVD (3") in the unit by lifting the cover and placing the DVD in the unit. This will burn about an hour to the 3" DVD so you can share it immediately. You need to use Sony's proprietary 3" disc Sony 3" Rewritable DVD+RW for Camcorders - 3pk but they are reasonably priced and reasonably available. The advantage of the searchable .mpg2 CODEC on disc should be obvious (as opposed to DV tapes).
If you need larger DVD burns, with the USB connection, it is possible to burn DVD's on the spot (I use this for interviews) for copies and distribution from your notebook computer. In addition, the internal file configuration can be converted to .wma or .mpg using Sony's proprietary software (included). (You will need to download the software updates to be able to edit the files using, for instance, Vista movie maker or other OS based video editing programs). The CODEC format is .mpg2 (not very efficient, but, allows for high resolution and editability (with updates to Sony's sofware).
This unit is sturdy and made as well as any of the Sony handycams. The chassis is, in fact, a proven design that has been around the SONY marketplace for over five years.
Another very useful feature is the 5.1 surround sound microphone. When you want to accurately record both audio and visual, directional stereo mic's will often pickup background noise and hiss, but, little else other than sound (such as voices talking at the camera) aimed at the mic. With the surround sound, you pick up everyting omnidirectionally. This is not only useful for picking up the voice of the person making the recording (as well as the subject) but has many other uses as well. When video'ing nature, the omnidirectional mike tends to attenuate the background hiss from all directions, yet, still pickup the sounds of birds and other nature sounds.
The digital quality is excellent (680,000 pixels translates to almost (about 75%) HD), and, with proper care in setting up your shots (being careful to avoid reflected or (too much) polarized light) you can make professional recordings.
After reviewing all of the available options out there, I think this is the unit with the most reliable and versatile features that is on the market.

Sanyo VPC-GH4 Full HD 1080 Camcorder with 10X Dual Range Zoom (Charcoal) Review

Sanyo VPC-GH4 Full HD 1080 Camcorder with 10X Dual Range Zoom (Charcoal)
Average Reviews:

I have several camcorders and I find myself taking this one (Sanyo VPC-GH4) out to shoot videos more often because it it very small and light. Both pictures and videos produced by this camcorder are clear and sharp for this class of product.
I prefer this camcorder to similarly priced but over-simplified products like the Flip HD camcorder.
This camcorder's battery does not have much stamina. This is why I have two spare batteries all charged up waiting on the side. Original manufacturer's battery is almost always very expensive (about twenty two dollars, including shipping), so I buy brand new compatible batteries on Ebay. Including shippping charge, each battery costs less than four dollars! Just type in the battery model code printed on battery itself and you will find lots of choices and prices. There is even a compatible charger that is more compact than the the original, and that you can buy for less than four dollars. It's handy for times that you need to charge more than one battery at once, or just the convenience of having chargers at different locations.

Capture life's special moments as they happen - the new Dual Camera GH4 records Full HD 60i video and up to 10 megapixel digital photos. It delivers excellent 10X dual range zoom for video and 5x optical zoom for photos. It has a more traditional horizontal design, but this product is far from ordinary. Its compact, lightweight design makes the GH4 extremely portable and easy to use. Recording videos, shooting photos and accessing settings in the menu can easily be controlled with the user's thumb. The GH4's MPEG4/H.264 recording format makes sharing videos and photos via social networking web sites, portable video devices like iPod's, TV's and computers, a breeze. Offering style, performance and value, the GH4 provides a convenient way to capture both videos and photos in daily life or for special events.

Vivitar V8018 ViviCam 8.1 MP Digital Camera Review

Vivitar V8018 ViviCam 8.1 MP Digital Camera
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I don't like writing poor reviews, but I am disappointed with this camera. The pictures are almost always blurry. The time from button down to photo taken is always slow enough to miss the moment. The video capture has no audio, although for some reason the actual picture quality is pretty good. The industrial design hints that the lens might telescope some, but this is purely for looks. The only way to get good pictures out of this camera is to take lots of pictures of the same scene and hope that one of them turns out alright. Battery life is surprisingly good, although I think after you give up taking pictures the battery usage becomes irrelevant. The camera is not hard to use, however if there is some trick to actually taking decent pictures with it in the user guide I have missed it. The tag "3x optical zoom" is marketing at its best. The zoom is digital.

I purchased the asus n61jq-b2(blue ray version) and was very unhappy when I couldn't open any programs out of the box without the system freezing up on me! I tried everything from removing blote-ware, to moving the few files (pictures and music) that I put on the C drive along with the OS, to the D drive which was empty. that did not fix the issue, I finally reformated the C drive and re-installed the Windows 7 OS. now this computer is running like a dream. I have a desktop with intel q6700and 4g of 800 mhz ram to compare it with and it is faster. dont know what caused the problem, but the reinstall saved me from returning the unit. this laptop also came with 1333mhz ram not the posted 1066mhz. just a little bonus. It also runs very cool compared to my old hp laptop. I am very happy with my purchase and impressed with the new intel i7-740QM. 5 stars for the money. and one last thing. Don't let the brown color scare you, it can pass as black.

I bought this camera to take pictures with my son at the Zoo and video. When I got home none of the videos had any sound. I called the manufacturer and they told me the camera has no mic and it's only for taking still shots. Nowhere in the manual does it say that there is no mic. What use is taking video with out sound? I feel totally duped. I will never buy another camera from Vivitar this is terribly dishonest.

VistaQuest VQ5115B 5 Megapixel Digital Camera (Blue)

For $50 bucks, you get what you paid for.
The batteries tend to die very quickly, so always keep a few AAA batteries with you, and when the batteries start to go low, it starts altering the images you take, skewing them slightly.
You can only zoom AFTER the picture is taken, not before, so make sure you stand exactly where you need to.
I like the fact that it also works as a webcam, I haven't used that feature yet. Also I like the SD card reader, you can always empty out all the pictures almost immediately, either by connecting the camera to your PC, or taking out the SD card and dumping it into your machine.
all an all its pretty good for $50, but only expect to do the very basic with it, if your looking for something that will allow you to take AMAZING pictures, then this is not for you. This is good as a "practice" camera, its simply, easy to work, and fun to have when your out with a bunch of friends just goofing of.
So if you just need something to take quick pictures of your friends during a day at the zoo, this would be good for you, just keep those extra batteries handy, especially if your going to use the flash.

HP Pavilion DV4-1220US 14.1-Inch Laptop (2.0 GHz AMD Turion X2 RM-72 Processor, 4 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium) Review

HP Pavilion DV4-1220US 14.1-Inch Laptop (2.0 GHz AMD Turion X2 RM-72 Processor, 4 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my first laptop and I think I made a great choice. Firstly, I bought it directly from hp.com and with the rebates I had, saved two hundred dollars. Secondly, I got free 2 day shipping and it arrived on time.
The first thing I like about it is that the color is not the cheap gold look you see in the picture. I love the keyboards on HPs Entertainment and Special Edition notebooks. They do not feel cramped. There have been many cmplaints about the glare of the keyboards on this and the black and chrome models. So far, I have had no problems with the glare. Yes, I agree with the other reviewer, that the keys are hard to see in the dark. I would assume that would be the case for any laptop unless it is backlighted and this is not. It is light (wtihtout the battery), the speakers generate nice sound, it finds wireless networks instantly, and I actually like Vista.Just a note, read up on accessing the hidden administrator account if you are new to Vista. It has some serious security that will keep you from making even the most basic adjustments, including removing the bloatware.
HP has done a wonderful job in including set up tutorials and online registration processes. The size is fantastic and screen is beautiful. I have not attached any peripherals up to it yet, so I cannot really comment on that.
Cons:
The battery life is short.. maybe an hour and a half even when it in the recommended power save mode. It has a lighted HP emblem on the back of the cover that uses resources. HP could have added the backlighted keyboard instead! The verdict is still out on there telephone tech service! I have had better experience with there chat support.
The comp does sound like it is working overtime anytime I burn a CD and the vibration generating from drive is a bit too much for me to type at the same time.
This is a great laptop, esp. if you can get it for under $[...]. It has only some bells and whistles, so if you want built in bluetooth and a blueray player, you will have to go up a model. Otherwise, no reason not to consider this one.

High Style Expanding on the sophisticated elegance of HP's notebook design from the past few years, the new DV series is defined by fluid, modern lines and metalized finishes. The HP Intersect Imprint finish in bronze and chrome encases all surfaces visible during normal use for greater durability. The Basics
Processor: The 2.1 GHz AMD Turion X2 RM-72 processor offers a dual-core architecture, which delivers additional computing resources to help expand your PC's capabilities by providing higher throughput and simultaneous computing--increasing your performance by up to 80 percent. You'll be able to perform multiple tasks such as digital rendering and gaming all while running virus scan or other background tasks seamlessly thanks to the innovative Direct Connect Architecture. And it's designed to handle simultaneous 32- and 64-bit computing with no degradation in performance. You'll enjoy long battery life thanks to the AMD PowerNow! power management technology, which delivers performance on demand and can extend system battery life up to 65 percent. And the AMD Digital Media XPress technology delivers stellar multimedia performance and playback on digital entertainment such as games, streaming video and audio, DVDs, and music.
It has a 1 MB L2 cache, and this processor can deliver up to 4.0 GT/sec. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance.)

Hard Drive: The generous 250 GB Serial ATA hard drive (5400 RPM) provides more than enough capacity for storing a large audio and video library, as well as extra space required for video editing. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to Firewire and USB 2.0.
You'll enjoy enhanced hard drive protection with HP's Protectsmart, which includes a 3D accelerometer that safeguards your data by parking your hard drive if your notebook detects any range of motion, such as being knocked off your desk, falling or taking abuse.

Memory: The 4 GB of installed RAM helps boost the amount of available video RAM that's shared with this notebook's video card. This notebook has an amazing 8 GB maximum RAM capacity (4 x 2 GB). To receive the faster data transfer benefits of the dual-channel DDR2 RAM, any RAM additions require memory modules of same capacity and clockspeed.

DVD/CD Drive: This multiformat DVD/CD drive is compatible with writing both DVD+ and DVD- disc formats as well as dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can store up to 8.5 GB of data. It features 4x DVD-R DL Write Once, 2.4x DVD+R DL Write Once, 8x DVD+R, 4x DVD+RW, 8x DVD-R, 4x DVD-RW, 16x DVD-ROM, 40x CD-R, 24x CD-RW, and 40x CD-ROM speeds.
This LightScribe DVD±RW drive lets you laser-etch silkscreen quality text and images on to CDs and DVDs . Your software, PC and discs work together for a no-hassle way to burn just the labels you want. After you burn content, just flip the disc over, reinsert and burn your label--anything from a simple title to a full-disc work of art.

Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a 101-key keyboard and a touchpad with on/off button and dedicated vertical/horizontal Scroll Up/Down pad. It also includes two quick-launch buttons (HP QuickPlay Music and DVD).
Screen, Video & Audio You'll enjoy razor-sharp graphics and widescreen movies with the 14.1-inch WXGA high-definition screen, which has a widescreen resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels--perfect for watching DVD movies the way they were meant to be seen.Video is powered by the ATI Radeon HD 3200 with RS780M chipset, which features 64 MB of DDR2 sideport memory and up to 1918 MB total graphics memory (as allocated by the operating system). It also offers support for Microsoft DirectX 10, providing compatibility with today's most advanced and graphic-intensive games and applications.
The Altec Lansing speakers provide exceptional sound, and it also includes SRS Premium Sound. You'll be able to privately share enjoyment of multimedia with a friend via the dual headphone jacks.

It's also backward compatible with 802.11b/g networks (commonly found in home routers and Wi-Fi hotspots) as well as 802.11a networks (which has a higher throughput, but more limited range--great for closed office environments).

Vivicam V5022 Purple 5.1MP 1.8IN Screen Review

Vivicam V5022 Purple 5.1MP 1.8IN Screen
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
For the price, this camera is a great buy! But it would not be such a good choice in the $90 dollar price range. It does snapshots very well but the quality of the photo goes down with zoomed or low light shots. It uses 3 triple-A batteries, readily available just about anywhere. A real plus in my book. A replacement battery pack for my SLR is more expensive than this whole camera!

I purchased this from a local retailer on a Christmas sale for even less than Amazon's price. I had been looking for a more portable camera for snapshots as my SLR is a bit much a lot of the time. But was not willing to pay $100 - $200 for a snapshot camera. 5 megapixels is the minimum resolution anyone should ever accept from any digital camera. And this fills the bill nicely. Small, convenient, easy to just slip into the pocket. And cheap enough to not have a heart attack over if it were to get damaged. This is the digital equivalent of the old Kodak Instamatic with slightly better pictures. Almost a throw-away. But not quite.
Picture quality is fair, sometimes even good. Zoomed shots get a bit fuzzy & the speed is not good enough to stop motion. The flash is minimally useful in a small room but useless elsewhere. Outdoor shots are much better than indoor. But picture quality can be improved considerably with good photo editing software. Like Photoshop or Paintshop Pro. It came with Vivitar Experience imaging software but as I already use Paintshop Pro, I haven't tried the included software.
No, you're not gonna win any photo prizes with this camera. But for a carry-in-the-pocket camera, it performs adequately. It is the total package at under $50 that makes this camera such a good buy.

Tascam DR07 Portable Digital Recorder Review

Tascam DR07 Portable Digital Recorder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just returned mine. Simply put, its a great little product, and for $175 you just can't find a better value. But you get what you pay for, and you get a nice little recording device, perfect for most applications, epically recording musical ideas while away from the studio. However, for low level recordings such as acoustic guitar, look closer at the Sony PCM-D50, that's what I'm switching to for my use. Here are my pros and cons of the DR07:
pros:
great price ($175 guitar center)
small
light weight
records any combination of 16/24bit 44.1k/48k sample rate
has built in mics
very easy to use
takes SD cards to expand recording time.
records either mp3 or wave files.
sound is directional, and records the best from directly in front.
Comes with a wind screen.
Takes AA batteries, easy to find and use.
cons:
Mic pre-amps are VERY noisy: when recording an interview or acoustic guitar, you can hear the hiss through it... lots of hiss on low volume recordings like that.
Lots of handling noise (more on that below),
NO Speaker! So you have to bring headphones to check your recordings.
The windscreen looks and feels cheap, its just a piece of shipping foam cut out to fit on top.
Buttons feel cheap,
memory card and USB access door feels cheap, I'm sure after a short while of use, it will break off.
Handling noise: any slight touch of the unit make a loud sound when using on-board mics, Poor quality limiter: the limiter cuts back so hard that when you just touch the unit, or get a loud pop from your voice, it cuts all the way down to zero, and then back up, so you get this very dramatic but short cut out of sound. Its very annoying. I had to turn off the limiter to use it, because every time i touched the unit to move it, it would cut out for a second. This was during an interview where I had the recording level up.
I was doing an interview and had to set the internal mic sensitivity to high and the gain to 8 or 9 (out of 10) just to get a good level on my subject sitting about 6 feet across from me. There was a lot of noise (hiss) too.Too much for someone picky, and looking for clean sound. Maybe an external mic would have been better, but you're still using the internal pre-amps which are very noisy.
I have to say that for the price, if you are looking for something to record band rehearsal, practice, or song ideas, its perfect! Maybe if you had a pair of mics you would get good results from a live rock concert (rock, not jazz or classical, because of the hiss in the background.... the rock music would drown that out)
So 5 out of 5 because it is perfect for what it is, but its not a solid feeling professional piece of gear with high quality preamps, its just a portable recorder for every day recording... professional sound guys would be disappointed. I would recommend this to my musician friends who want something to record scratch song ideas while away from a real studio, or someone looking to get into recording as a hobby, and play around with recordings.
Hope that helps people out there.*** UPDATE ***
okay, i just found the Sony PCM-M10 Portable Digital Recorder. I would suggest that anyone on the fence about the Sony PCM-D50 should consider this one, its half the price. If its ANYTHING like the D50, it will be something to consider if you're looking for a bit more from the DR07, mainly a bit more in quality of the mics.

TASCAM's DR-07 brings portable digital recording to an even smaller, more affordable package. A pair of highly-sensitive built in mics captures a wide stereo image, recording in either MP3 or 16/24-bit WAV format. The DR-07 is powered by AA batteries and it transfers files to a computer using a high-speed USB 2.0 connection. The versatile recorder even includes a windscreen, tripod stand mount and 2GB SD card to start recording right away.

Musicians will appreciate the playback functions of the DR-07, including the ability to loop MP3s and slow them down without changing the pitch. External microphones and sources can be recorded through the mic/line input, and the recorder offers analog limiting, low cut and auto gain setting for great-sounding audio. But for great-sounding recordings, the compact DR-07 is all you need.
Built-in Mic The DR-07 features a pair of built-in stereo electret condenser mics, for instant, high-sensitivity stereo recordings. Thanks to the adjustable input level, it's a great choice for quiet or loud applications, from simple songwriting with a guitar to recording a metal band rehearsal.
SD and SD-HC Support Record to SD cards (including the included 2GB card) or add a little more recording time with high-capacity SD-HC cards up to 32GB.
Simple File Transfer Using the USB 2.0 jack, file transfer is a breeze. Simply connect to your PC and drag-and-drop.
Mic/Line Input Use an external microphone or line input device using the 3.5mm line and mic inputs.
The 3.5mm line output works with headphones or for sending to stereos/monitors/etc.
Keep It Clean The DR-07 has plenty of features to ensure your audio doesn't end up a distorted mess. The switchable low cut filter helps avoid rumble during field applications or recording bass-heavy material, the analog limiter keeps the dynamics in check, and the auto gain setting helps avoid preamp distortion from the get-go.
MP3 or WAV Recording The DR-07 writes WAV files at 44.1 or 48kHz, 16 or 24-bit formats. But you don't always need that for a scratch practice recording, grabbing an interview or lecture, etc. MP3 file recording lets you record directly to MP3 format, from 32kbps to 320 kbps, thus saving you a wealth of space on that SD card.
Variable-Speed Audition Slow down playback without changing the pitch--handy for learning or studying passages, transcribing interviews, or other uses.
Ultra-Portable The DR-07 is ready to go anywhere, since it's powered by two AA batteries (you can add the optional PS-P520 power adapter to power from a wall outlet).
It weighs just 4.4 ounces--with batteries--and is 2.2 x 5.3 x 1.1 inches in size.

-work with HDMI nicely
-perfectly fit for readers or long-time-using users with anti-glare.

I picked this Gateway up as an addition to our HP gaming laptop, but didn't want do dish out another 2 grand for something top of the line.
This is a "bare-bones" gateway model. What this means is you're going to get the best performance for the buck, with little else in terms of frills. Consider this a computer you would buy if you want the power of a quad-core, a lot of RAM, and a dedicated video card without having to pay an arm and a leg for it. I walked out of the store paying just under 1100 for the tower, 22-inch HDMI monitor, and an all-in-one printer. You can't beat a deal like this in any retail store (unless you're thrifty at newegg).
Pros
-Quad Core at 2.33, 4MB L2 Cache; decent processing speed for the price
- Dedicated Nvidia GT 120 video card with HDMI output, 1G memory and dual screen capable. The GT120 benchmarked about 30 fps on Crysis with normal settings. When running on high modes on Spore, WoW, and Crysis, the frame rates dropped considerably. Expect to be able to play any retail game out now, just don't expect incredibly detailed video settings to play with.
- 64-bit Vista. As a computer junkie I've regularly hated Vista; and still do. For a casual computer user you'll like the speed and ease-of-use 64-bit vista brings. It loads a lot faster too.
- 8GB DDR2 memory; not the newest technology but we're talking about a 18% slower response time than DDR3. If you don't know what that means then I wouldn't worry about it. Multiple programs were loaded with no load times after it's initial startup. Cons:
- The tower is huge and ugly. Weighed in at just under 40 lbs. Have fun finding space for this hog!
- No wireless ethernet card
- No second DVD drive
- Realtek HD software sound was faulty right out of the box. Required a reinstall. The same problem happened with the hard drive when it tried to install RAID. There is only one hard drive on the computer, so why is RAID trying to install itself? Logitech software wouldn't install, had to use previous versions. Some old computer perpetuals don't work on the 64-bit version, and created unknown errors with trying to rollback the drivers for 32-bit.
- 640GB seemed a bit small for a multimedia labeled computer. Uncompressed video reaches 100GB in a matter of minutes. I would have expected something at or near a terrabyte. We're living in a recession, so good deals are more important now than ever. With the LX 6810, you get what you pay for and in this case its a good thing. Don't expect overpriced accessories to accompany this massive beast, just expect a good quality engine under the hood.

I am rating the camera, not the seller. I bought the blue version of this camera from Wal-Mart when my expensive digital camera stopped working while I was on vacation. The camera has a "digital lens", not a real one. Basically, the problem is that it is a pinhole camera. You MUST hold the camera perfectly still for a couple of seconds for the camera to record the image. NONE of the 200+ photos I took were razor sharp, most were blurred beyond recognition until I figured out what was going on. Please note: 1) I took this camera back to Wal-Mart the next day for my money back and used the camera on my cell phone which I am very happy with! 2) I am not an inexperienced photographer, I have been taking pictures with an SLR camera since the early 80's. I have both a film and a digital SLR, and a Powershot G9. Do NOT buy this camera.
