This gadget works pretty good, but is not perfect!
Pros:
>Has a lot of frequencies to choose from
>Good FM Stereo sound & and is pretty good most of the time (sometimes there is some interference)
>Very compact
>Actually worked with my 1GB SD card
>Comes with a remote (although you can easily operate the buttons on the unit by hand)
>Remembers set frequency and last song played if you remove it from car (or turn power to unit off)
>Great bargain for the technology
Cons:
>The display shows the frequency, track #, name of song; but it is so tiny you cannot possibly read it while driving!
>The major flaw is that you cannot jump from one folder to next, you can only advance song by song (but I suppose that's ok if you have all your favorite songs in the SD card, or plug in an external MP3 player in the jack provided)
>Another little glitch is that there is no OFF button on the device. My car's power outlet is always on. So I put the MP3 device on PAUSE when I stop listening (otherwise the songs will continue being processed by the MP3 player)

I purchased this camcorder for my boyfriend's birthday (May 2008). I loved it so much I went out and bought myself one.
The picture quality is amazing for the price. I am very impressed. It is not a low-light (no light) camera. You need moderate lighting to see your subject when shooting indoors or at night. Keep in mind - this is not a professional quality camcorder. If you are looking for a professional camcorder this is not the product for you.
The sound is decent if your subject is talking loudly at a distance or near the mic (be careful not to block the mic with your finger when hand-holding the camera)
Solid construction and features compared to similar products in its price range.
The lens has no cover (similar to that of a camera cell phone) so be sure to place the camera in its carrying case when not in use to prevent scratches on the lens.
The camcorder is very portable and is simple to use. It has minimal buttons and basic features (on, off, record, stop, play, volume, etc)
Again... it is NOT a professional camera. If image stabilization, sound and low light are important features that you MUST have - this is NOT the camcorder for you. This is an amateur camcorder - I believe it serves its purpose and produces quality recordings for the price.

Diamond XtremeSound 7.1/24 bit Sound Card ( XS71 ) Review

Diamond XtremeSound 7.1/24 bit Sound Card ( XS71 )
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I left Creative's sound blaster USB because they did not support Vista; I searched Amazon and found The Diamond by searching for "Vista sound Cards", I ordered it overnight, it arrived, but the software did not work with Vista although the generic windows driver does.
I called Diamond, because the card inside said "Do not return to vendor call us first." I did and was told, impatiently, that the box did not say Vista and that I should return it to Amazon.
So I am going to keep it, it does work, where the Creative did not. I received about half of what I thought I had bought.
Amazon showed this under a Vista search, Diamond was rude. The hassel of returning it and starting over, is too much.
So Cavet Emptor - be careful, make sure it is what you want, if it does not say Vista do not buy it no matter what the website claims.
Diamond has performed well in the past.
And, yes, I should have been more careful, I was too easily misled, by my pressing need for sound, and my desire to get on with it.
Ken

Samsung SC-DX103 DVD Camcorder Review

Samsung SC-DX103 DVD Camcorder
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got the Samsung DigitalCam SC-DX103 from retail for $277 (without tax) to record my brother play the piano @ the Manchester Music School. There was a $680 Sony HandyCam with the Dolby 5.1 surround sound and really high quality video recording, but I didn't want to pay $400 extra & I doubted if the sound quality (my DigitalCam has Dolby Stereo sound) would be significantly better on the Sony Handycam because most of the costs would go to the video quality & not audio. So, for my purpose of recording a concert, I thought that this should suffice.
It did - there was a bit of booming in the sound quality when I recorded myself playing piano but it wouldn't matter. At first, I thought that the camcorder might actually be terrible buy - because after I made several test tries I played the videos from the camcorder & the sound was awful. Actually, the camcorder's speakers are mediocre & they sound terrible when they play the piano recording, but the actual recording's audio is not bad --> if you play the recording from a computer or a tv it should be fine.
The video quality was okay. In fact, the camcorder's software would make the recording really crisp & clear, but the only thing that made the whole thing "ok" was the smaller resolution of the recording--> doesn't look necessarily crisp on a tv. the video was fine in all circumstances except in really dark environments. then everything would turn unpleasantly gray. there's a c. nite function - which i haven't used but i looked up & i think it's a special mode for dark situations.
the lcd has backlight function which, according to wikipedia, increases readability in low light conditions.
it also has wind cut function if you want to cancel out of noises caused by heavy winds.
its zoom is - 34x optical & up to 1200 x digital. i tried the optical zoom @ 34 x, but i realized that my hand shaked too much (i.e. heartbeat) --> made me wonder if the 34x was just a hype & it was actually completely useless. then in the menu i found the anti-shake function that did reduce the shaking significantly (but there still was some shaking) at maximum zoom. the shake is almost unnoticeable in normal zoom.
something that amused me was the digital effect function. it has different modes including black & white, negative, art, emboss, mosaic, etc. the emboss & mosaic modes were really artistic & interesting - the camera shows a modified version of my recording (as i am recording) & it looks like some sort of art painting done by picasso.
if you compare this to a similarly priced camcorder - lets say "Sony Handycam DCR-HC30" @ 279.99 (see CNET review),
the samsung camcorder has larger resolution 720 x 480 @ widescreen (vs. 640 x 480), the same low light mode & image stabilization, better video format (mpeg-2 for dvd rather than mpeg-1 for vcd)
the sony contestant has a touchscreen lcd display that samsung camcorder doesn't but CNET says the response on the sony's touchscreen is terrible & I really like the feel & the response of the small joystick on samsung's display, so I'd think that the touchscreen on the sony handycam is a waste of money & samsung made a smart decision in putting a regular display with joystick control while putting that extra money into video quality
both have easy mode (enlarge menus, etc.), the sony lacks the 34x optical zoom (it has 10x)
both weigh .9 Ibs.
so in fact, after writing this review & doing all the research, i actually feel even better with my purchase. i give 4/5 stars (sony would get 3/5 stars)
ah, forgot to mention that if you use smart card for this camcorder, you can take pictures --> you can use it as a camera too.

This camera is amazing! I bought it based on the reviews I read, but had NO idea of all the different things this camera does! It shoots videos and it shoots in "sports mode" - taking many pictures one right after the other so you don't miss anything. We have used this camera at some multiple-day music festivals and are simply amazed at the clarity of the pictures and how easy it is to use! The sound on the videos is good (if your computer speakers are good) and a unipod solves the shake problem if you have one. The batteries last pretty long if you aren't shooting videos - that seems to use them up quicker. This is my first digital camera, and I bought it because 1) easy to use, 2) large preview screen and 3) uses AA batteries. I was absolutely thrilled it did all this extra stuff. Friends who took the same pictures with their cameras were surprised at the difference when the pictures were posted. Ours were much better. Highly recommend this camera - especially to the camera novice (like me).

I bought this player for myself. I have had many mp3 players but none can beat this one. The pictures are clear, the sound is great. My only problem is that I can not download games to it. I carry it with me everywhere. my wife sends me pictures of my kids, and via internet and this player is the ideal place to store those pictures. The slideshow feature is awesome. Other people in my unit, who have the ipod, are very impressed with this player. They really don't believe that I got so much for such a small price. My suggestion, get you one, you will not be disappointed.

USB 2.0 External 5.1 Channel 3D Sound Card Adapter for PC Notebook Laptop Review

USB 2.0 External 5.1 Channel 3D Sound Card Adapter for PC Notebook Laptop
Average Reviews:

If you notice there are reviews all over the place. The reason for this is because those that are not getting good performance are not setting them up correctly in windows. After you install the USB device in a USB 2 connector (not a USB 1) you have to go into the windows volume control panel and be sure to select it (USB) as the device to be used. Otherwise it will still be set on your internal sound card. It is best to disable the internal sound card or else you may end up with noise you don't want. If you set it up correctly it works beautifully and for a fraction of the cost of a new soundcard.

Aluratek ADPF08SF 8-Inch Digital Photo Frame (800x600 Hi Resolution) Review

Aluratek ADPF08SF 8-Inch Digital Photo Frame (800x600 Hi Resolution)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I did tons of research before purchasing as I bought a total of 8 frames as Christmas presents. 3 of these and 4 of a larger one.
First the Pros...the quality is unsurpassed for the price! 800x600 is incredibly clear and the frame is sleek and slimline. It is also pretty simple to use, it can zoom, rotate and crop, even though I did have to reference the directions for how to save the changes to the pictures. I was very happy with these.
Now the cons...it supposedly has internal memory but I didn't find an easy way to utilize it (from what I saw you have to transfer the pics manually, one at a time into the internal memory from your external memory source! why bother?) I did order 2gb sd cards to use with them since they are pretty cheap and hold a lot of photos but unfortunately I didn't realize that the sd card would need a writer to put the pictures on it (so I ended up running to Walmart for an $8 reader/writer) I think the easiest way to use this frame is to plug in a flash drive, your computer won't need anything special to put pics on it, just try to find the smallest one possible as it will stick out the side if its too big!
In the end the quality over triumps all the little issues I've had and everyone was so happy to get them at Christmas, of course it helps when you do a little leg work and gather pics from friends and family to preload. I got sereval tears this year, its going to be hard to out do these next year!

Inland 87050 Dynamic Stereo Headphones with Volume Control (Black) Review

Inland 87050 Dynamic Stereo Headphones with Volume Control (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let me first add a caveat, I bought a pair of these about 5 years ago, so that's what I'm going to be talking about, hopefully Inland's quality has not gone down.
I love these headphones! For being a cheap pair of headphones the sound quality is comparable to the Panasonic RP-HTX7-K1 Monitor Headphones, the base is actually a bit stronger, though the treble isn't as clear (which I never noticed until I went step by step through the full frequency spectrum to compare the two). The only reason you might want to go with something more high-end is that these get a bit uncomfortable after a couple hours, and the poofy headband makes them a bit silly looking when they're on your head.
pros:
-sound is excellent
-durable
-my pair have a volume control directly on the wire which comes in handy if your tunes are recorded at different volumes
cons:
-bulky
-dorky (but not in a chic way)
-can really only wear for a few hours
-supra-aural cups don't cut out noise as much as you would expect

Magnavox NB530MGX Blu-ray Disc Player Review

Magnavox NB530MGX Blu-ray Disc Player
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a great player that offers an excellent picture, and is easy on the wallet. I bought this at Walmart for under $200 and I have been very pleased with the quality. I was blown away by the great picture blu-ray has to offer! Dont expect to many frills such as BD-Live, but do expect a great, "pop in your movie and go" player! It does have an sd-card slot that allows you to save bookmarks and view photos and video clips through the player onto you tv which is really great.
So if your on a budget and want an excellent player for any price, you cant go wrong with this one!
On a side note, some people complain about load times, and although it takes a bit longer to load BD discs than regular DVDs, its quite understandable and really only takes about 30 seconds (give or take a few).

SanDisk Sansa e130 512 MB Digital Audio Player with SD Expansion Slot Review

SanDisk Sansa e130 512 MB Digital Audio Player with SD Expansion Slot
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This mp3 player is pretty darn good. It is light weight, easy to handle, and fairly inexpensive ($103 from Amazon). I bought the Sandisk over the Rio and RCA offerings because Sandisk, at least in my research, didn't seem to have the number of complaints about product quality and lack of customer support that the other two brands had. Also, it seems as if getting at least a 512MB flash memory player with an expansion slot is going to cost around $100.
This player represents the second Sandisk mp3 player in our household. We were impressed with the ease of use and tranfer speed of the 512MB flash memory player (with no expansion slot). The Sansa player is no different. It is literally drag and drop on to the Sansa. The number of features also put it over the top versus the RCA and Rio.
Overall, you can't beat the usefullness of this little gadget.
Pro's:
--Small size, light weight
--USB 2.0 file transfer speed (transfer 100mb worth of songs in seconds)
--Backlight display
--Plays mp3 and WMA (you can put both on the player at the same time and it doesn't even blink)
--Radio reception is fairly decent here in the hills, but still won't pick up all of the available stations in your area (none of the small mp3 players on the market get anything more than decent reception so don't use this as a selling point regardless of what you buy)
--Sound quality is decent even when playing songs at 64Kbps. If you use this compression level, get good earphones.
--Lots of features including a customizable 5-band eqaulizer with presets, WOW surround sound simulator, and other sound effects. Also, has stopwatch timer and a host of other settings you can play with.
--Battery life is excellent. Not as good as some, but still near the top of players that have good battery life.
--It comes with pouch, armband, earbuds, usb cable.
Minor Con's:
--When you purchase this player, buy headphones. The included earbuds are pointless as the sound quality is barely adequate and the included 3 sets of earbud covers can't keep the earbuds in my ears.
--The battery cover door comes off fairly easily. It looks like it's on there pretty tight but it's not. I think Sandisk did this because of the many complaints that the battery covers on their mp3 players were too difficult to remove causing many people to break the battery cover (like my fiancee did with her own player).
--Your music files need to be properly tagged. I thought my files were appropriately named but this player doesn't seem to recognize the songs. I think the ID3 tags on my music are not correct as the player will display the music title you typed in but it will also show the album, song title, and artist as unknown.
--The buttons on the front are hard to push if you are not expecting it. You just have to adapt to pushing the button deeper than you would think.
--The volume is controlled by a rotary wheel on the top right side of the player. It is very difficult to turn, especially when it is in the holder. I would have preferred two more buttons on the front or side than the wheel.
--Getting the player out of the holder is incredibly difficult. Wipe of the display of the player and the inside of the plastic holder before putting the player in the holder. The plastic film that protects the display during transport leaves either static or a light adhesive film on the display that makes it stick to the plastic holder after you put it in. It took me five minutes and many attempts to get it out before I realized what happened. Also be careful not to yank off the battery door when pulling the player out of the holder. There you have it. None of these gripes add up to more than a minor irritation which is why I gave it five stars (I would have given it 4.5 starts if I could have). However, having experienced other mp3 players, this one has the best combination of manufacturer product reliability and product support, versatility and expandability (up to 2GB SD card), features, and sound quality. My finacee has started using my player instead of her own player. Added on 4/25/05:
In my initial review, I forgot to mention two things. The Sansa ignores your file organization so don't bother trying to setup seperate folders for different genres of music. This is why I warned before to make sure that the music you have is named and tagged properly because it does allow you to play songs by artist, album, date added to player, and so on (let's hope SanDisk fixes this with some software upgrades). Also, there is about a 1-2 second lag when switching between songs. This can get a little annoying at times but you will get used to it. To be fair, one more upside is that I added a 1G SD card (SanDisk Ultra II) and after the initial 60 seconds to read the card and update the playlist, it doesn't miss a beat. I still really enjoy this mp3 player.
Added on 05/02/05:
My Sansa has started to drink batteries like I drink Coke. Not sure why; it could be using extra juice to read music on the SD card. I may have to purchase rechargeable batteries if this keeps up. I got 6 hours of playing time out of my last battery. My fiancee's Sandisk (a flash memory player, no expansion slot) goes about 15 hours on a AAA battery. Not sure why the huge discrepancy between our two Sandisk players but my best guess is that my batteries are being drained reading the memory card. It would be helpful if someone out there with some knowledge about this would write a review.
Added on 0725/05:
After having a chance to live with the player for a few more months, I have to downgrade the rating to 3 stars. The player has become harder to live with. It plays reliably and the sound is good but it is still drinking batteries like crazy and the rotary volume knob hasn't loosened up much. Sandisk hasn't offered any software upgrades to address the lack of being able to organize your files any way you want to and it is still very difficult to remove the player from its holder. Having owned several makes and models of players before, this is still better than those players because each of those players died 2-8 months after purchase. Shop around and get what sounds good to you.

Jupiter Jack Review

Jupiter Jack
Average Reviews:

I recently ordered the Jupiter Jack and was excited to use it because I am on the road all the time. It definitely does what it says it does just not very well. I live in DC and on just about every dial we have a radio station which is not good for the jupiter jack trying to steal the frequency. Both station it has you use are close to very powerful stations here so even though you are not on the same frequency they still come through. I am not here to say I am dissapointed in the product I just wish it was a little stronger. I am sure it would probably work in a more rural area where there are not as many stations but for DC it is not the best choice.

I wasn't sure if I should purchase this mp3 player because of the incredibly mixed reviews. Turns out, I really like it. The sound is good. It's fairly easy to navigate through the menus, and the battery life is awesome. My only complaint is the cheap ear buds they package with the product. Doesn't really fit the jack, so I was constantly having to fiddle with it and twist it around to get the sound back into both ears (and eliminate static on the FM). This was easily fixed with a purchase of some moderately decent $5 ear buds. All-in-all a good purchase for $39.

I bought this camera to take pictures with my son at the Zoo and video. When I got home none of the videos had any sound. I called the manufacturer and they told me the camera has no mic and it's only for taking still shots. Nowhere in the manual does it say that there is no mic. What use is taking video with out sound? I feel totally duped. I will never buy another camera from Vivitar this is terribly dishonest.

I purchased this laptop shortly after Windows 7 came out. I found a deal on it for $450 or so at Office Depot. I am not an avid Office Depot shopper (and actually used to work there), but I decided to check this out. I got the laptop, had everything setup relatively quickly, and realized that it came with Windows 7 32-bit installed (my lack of homework, but didn't turn out to be a problem). This is the one of only reasons (see next paragraph for other) I give this laptop a 4 star rating. Someone who is even moderately tech savvy can install Windows 7 64-bit with the exact same key, which is on the bottom of the laptop completely free and 100 percent Legal (Windows 7 keys allow for EITHER 32-bit or 64-bit installation). Some of the software for the computer that is on the disc is a bit more challenging to find the 64-bit drivers for, you will have to look for the 64-bit folder. This is worth the extra effort in my opinion. Google it and you will find plenty of forums if you need any help (especially on [...]).
Pros: This laptop for [...] bucks with 4GB RAM, 320 GB Hard Drive, 16 inch wide screen, HDMI output, and 64-bit Processor and 64-bit Windows 7 (with a bit of work as said above), is clearly a steal! A brand that is lesser known in the mainstream market, because of less advertising, means you don't pay for the Dell, Apple, or Sony advertising. This is a well known brand in the motherboard industry.
Cons: The one problem I have noticed is that occasionally when it tries to hibernate it will not be able to come out of it. I just restart and everything is fine. I have avoided most of this problem by forcing my hard drive to stay on in the power settings. I know it has crashed when the power button LED does not flash anymore (which it normally does when its sleeping). This may be a Windows 7 thing, might be specific to Windows 7 64-bit, or may be the laptop. I am not 100 percent sure where this problem is coming from.
In repsonse to the reviewer talking about tech support and such. Obviously MSI support can only do so much when you haven't done all your research. In your review it even sounded like they answered all your questions and waived some of the cost for you. There were things you did not understand from the get go that you should have. This is not a case of poor MSI support, rather lack of customer due diligence. I am tired of customers rating the product poorly because they haven't done their homework. It sounded like this reviewer looked at a few laptops, chatted with a sales person at Office Depot for an hour, and thought he knew everything he needed to purchase a laptop. The Office Depot guy's job is to sell you a freaking laptop, NOT to do all your homework and make the best decision for you. He is going to have basic knowledge of the products for sale, not enough for you to make a great decision.

Gemini DJX-03 On-Ear Professional DJ Headphones Review

I purchased the Gemini DJX-03 headphones after searching all through amazon for headphones that weren't too expensive, but were sturdy. When I purchased these headphones, I was really excited: Good quality sound, comfortable, the cord was nice and long, and on top of that they were adjustable. FANTASTIC, even. Unfortunately in a mere week of use I put the headphones on and found that the right side was dead. Almost completely useless on the right side, although it is still functioning on the left. I was very frustrated because of how quickly they seemed to die, and I took very good care of them.

StarTech.com COMP2VGA Composite and S-Video to VGA Video Converter for Computer Monitors Review

Frankly, the adapter does what it says. I connected my PS2 to my 17 inch LCD monitor. The graphics felt ok .. nothing gr8 but I had to adjust my monitor settings. I don't have any problem with that (although I was disappointed since it meant changing the settings everytime you toggle between PC and PS2). Additionally, I would have liked longer cables. Thats fine too. The thing which really [ticked] me off is that when I connected my PC and monitor to the adapter, I was not able to get input from PS2. I tried but my monitor kept saying "no signal". Now this can be a problem with my monitor settings but it worked fine when I connected my PS2 separately. And the box said its just plug and play. Well I plugged and it didn't play. So its going back. I will have to pay restocking fee for this junk but atleast I will save 40 odd dollars. Also I was not too happy with the display quality.
