(More customer reviews)I got this card to replace an X-Fi Fatal1ty card. The Xonar is superior to it in many ways. First of all, it includes many of the Dolby technologies designed for home theaters. PC users will also benefit from this, the card has Dolby Headphone and a Virtual Speaker which delivers incredible sound quality in any environment. Second, the drivers for this card are solid. Unlike the X-Fi, this card is designed for 32 AND 64-bit computers. To Creative X-Fi owners, this means you can turn on Cool n' Quiet without popping. You can also turn on the memory hole (if you have 4GB or more of RAM) and not have to deal with the snapping, crackling, hissing, and popping noises. Third, if you are a digital music creator, the Xonar comes with a whole suite of music creation software which makes the steep price tag worth it even more. Finally, the audio controls included in the driver package allow users to tweak the sound to perfection. The only thing this card doesn't do as well as an X-Fi is gaming. The Xonar only supports up to EAX 2 not EAX 5. This is a small issue as most games don't support it anyway. The X-Fi also delivers greater performance in gaming. However, the difference is negligible.

ASUS Xonar Essence ST 24-bit 192KHz PCI Interface Audio Card Review

(More customer reviews)I am writing this review to let you know that this Asus Xonar Essence ST audio card sounds better than another version STX which is designed for PCIE. I purchased two versions and auditioned them carefully. Both sound far superior to Creative Elite Pro, Fatal1ty professional and HT Omega Claro Plus that I have listened before. But vocals of STX sound nasal and rugh compared to ST. ST sounds more natural and refined with much deeper and more realistic bass sound reproduction. The Stereophile magazine reviewer said ST and STX appear to be identical, but they "indeed" sound different. They are not merely designed for different interfaces. No wonder ST is priced higher. I decided to keep ST and return STX for refund.
My speaker system is Creative GigaWorks T3. It sounds excellent with ST and STX. Today I will receive Razer Mako. Can't wait to see how it will play with ST.

(More customer reviews)This card does NOT support imported soundfonts although their manual implies that it does. Good old Creative. Nowhere on their web site do they tell which products do and which do not support soundfonts. You have to find out the hard way.
The other features of this card are just fine. If you don't need to import soundfonts, then this may very well be the card for you. However their manual and, in fact, all of their tech writing is superficial and borderline useless.
