(More customer reviews)I bought this stereo primarily because it was one of the few that still have auxiliary inputs on the back, so I could hook it up to my TV audio out connections for home theatre. Despite the low price for so much power, I was amazed by the excellent sound it produces. With deep bass, sharp highs, and incredible separation, the stereo reproduces a wide range of music with excellent fidelity that you can feel as well as hear. When used as a home theatre sound source, it provides a surround sound that draws you into the action like nothing I have ever seen. Although it has a number of settings for equalization and ambience, the MAX setting overrides all of them. That isn't a bad thing, however, because the MAX setting seems to always produce a better overall sound than any combination of the other controls. There are some drawbacks, depending on your needs: no balance control or separate bass and treble controls; the tape decks do not have auto-reverse; and the only front input is a USB port. The radio section has an automatic setup that programs all the stations in your area, but for me, this was less than helpful. It tuned in a bunch of weak AM stations, and only one FM station, and once they are programmed, they are there permanently, as far as I can determine. I was able to manually tune in a couple FM stations and add them to the program, but I cannot delete the ones I don't want. Since I rarely listen to the radio, this is not a serious drawback for me. For CDs, cassettes, and movies it consistently blows me away with its lifelike sound, wide separation, and ease of operation.

JVC Kaboom System for Ipod Review

(More customer reviews)ok.. i have been waiting for this Kaboom to finally make it to the states.. i received mine today.. some things to mention.. this is a 40 watt kaboom.. not the 52 watt older kaboom.. the side firing subs are also smaller.. if you love the deep deep bass of prior Kaboom models.. dont buy this one.. if you like moderate "in your face" mid/bass.. then this Kaboom is for you.. it's almost the same size as older kabooms.. and has a managable wieght.. so carrying it around wont break your back.. item is "MADE IN CHINA" unlike older kabooms that were solidly biult in Indonesia.. and it shows.. cheaper plastics and parts were used in this Kaboom..
item lacks the durable shoulder strap/remote holder from previous Kabooms.. it's now a funky strap/plastic lachy thingy.. it also does not come with batteries for the remote.. a sign of cheapness.. is it worth $300? nope.. $150-$180 perhaps.. IPOD intergration is simple at best.. it does simpe functions.. but it's not fully intergrated.. but the main reason i bought it is that it protects the IPOD from damage.. this it does well.. i did not try the USB input.. but i'm sure it works as intended..
bottom line.. if you want the BASS that Kabooms were known for.. this will not fill that void.. stick with the older units
but if you want a nice compact carry anywhere self contained boombox for your IPOD this will do fine.. it does get plenty loud..
sign of the times.. the day of quality electronics is no more..

(More customer reviews)I bought this on a whim after having the FM Modulator I had installed last week removed from my '03 Jetta because the sound was pathetic. (Really upsettingly bad.) I really didn't expect much, but thought it was worth a try at the price. I could not be happier! I don't have any of the whirry, clicky noises others mention, unless I've turned my iPod off while the adapter is still in the cassette deck, and even then it's not terribly noisy. The sound is surprisingly crisp and the highs and lows are clean and distinct--unike the awful experience I had with the modulator. I don't know whether the quality will deteriorate over time, but at $12, if I have to replace it now and then it's worth it. (Much cheaper than replacing my car stereo, like the car audio salesguy told me I'd have to do.) If you have a cassette deck, try it. You'll be amazed.

ADS Technologies RDX-150-EF Instant Music for Mac and PC Review

(More customer reviews)Instant Music is a great idea, by simply connecting the RDX150 to your PC with a USB cable, you should be able to convert your old LP's and cassettes into wav, MP3 or other digital files which you can then burn on CD or download to an MP3 player. Even someone as lo-tech as me can figure it out, I mean I don't know the first thing about computers, but the RDX150 was easy to install. The Nero software that came with the RDX150 is also pretty east to operate. Simply by clicking on the "Wizards" tab, all I had to do was basically push "play" on my stereo and click on "record" on the software, again very easy to use. The problem came when I actually began to record some of my cassettes. I have read other reviews that spoke of a "hum" that was audible during the recoreding, I wasn't even that lucky....at times I was getting such a loud static sound as feedback, that I wasn't able to hear the original audio! I tried replacing the USB cable that hooked up Instant Music to my PC, and that didn't work. I even used a different stereo hoping to solve the problem. I moved the Instant Music box away from all electronic devices in hopes that by getting it away from the monitor, PC etc. I would cut down on the interference...nothing worked. I e-mailed ADS three days ago with the problem....put it this, I ain't holding my breath for a response now. And just to put it in perspective, I am not trying to get optimum sound for recording, I am not trying to transfer hi-definition, I am simply trying to convert my collection of old radio shows from the 30's, 40's & 50's. Most of which contain enough static on their own, and all of which are mono recordings. So I don't need pristine sound. I finally gave up yesterday, and bought a product called "INport" by Xitel. Basically, it's the same thing, but I found out the "INport" is grounded....I have no clue what that means, but it works! Unfortunately, I don't care for the software that came with the INport, so I am using the Nero software that came with the RDX150. The INport is about $20 more, but it's well worth it, and will get the job done!
