The resolution and size of the screen on this camera is absolutely incredible. Pictures and video look really sharp. Screen is anti-reflective too. HD video is outstanding. Taped a table tennis match, the video and sound were both extremely clear and the movement was incredibly smooth, due to the 30 fps. I am not so impressed with camera's auto mode, while indoors, yet. Colors were off, maybe due to the white balance and low light. I find myself using the "P" mode mostly and making small adjustments to the white balance and adjusting the "my colors" section. Overall its a beautiful looking camera and feels good in the hands. I like the two tone color scheme. You have to watch your fingers, on your left, hand so they don't block the flash, it's very easy to do.
Update: Digital Zoom.
Most people advise you to disable digital zoom because of the resolution degradation when using it, however on this camera the digital zoom is fantastic, with very little resolution degradation seen and digital zoom can be used while in Video mode.
Update Foliage Program mode,8/2009:
I have been using the foliage mode for outdoor scenic shots lately. In this mode the greens, blues, are brilliantly enhanced making scenic pics pop out with bright color, some may like or dislike for the colors do not represent the true colors viewed. I like this mode, especially if the light your shooting in is not right, this mode will brighten the colors and make your photo less boring. I recommend previewing each shot before you move on to make sure the colors are not too saturated. I found that as the light changes this may happen.
Update: March 2010
Get the Canon S90, much, much better camera than the SD970,. The S90 also has low light sensors that make any indoor picture almost perfect. With the S90 you get professional results!

This camera is amazing! I bought it based on the reviews I read, but had NO idea of all the different things this camera does! It shoots videos and it shoots in "sports mode" - taking many pictures one right after the other so you don't miss anything. We have used this camera at some multiple-day music festivals and are simply amazed at the clarity of the pictures and how easy it is to use! The sound on the videos is good (if your computer speakers are good) and a unipod solves the shake problem if you have one. The batteries last pretty long if you aren't shooting videos - that seems to use them up quicker. This is my first digital camera, and I bought it because 1) easy to use, 2) large preview screen and 3) uses AA batteries. I was absolutely thrilled it did all this extra stuff. Friends who took the same pictures with their cameras were surprised at the difference when the pictures were posted. Ours were much better. Highly recommend this camera - especially to the camera novice (like me).

Kodak EasyShare Z885 8.1MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom Review

Kodak EasyShare Z885 8.1MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom

Spent a lot of time looking for reviews on this camera without luck -- so I thought I would post one.
Bought this for my parents who have never used a digital camera so ease of use was of primary concern. From that perspective it's a home run. It is much more intuitive than the other digital cameras I have owned/used. Low-light usage is (predictably) not as good as my D-SLR (forget the 8000 ISO from a practical standpoint, but at 800 it performs well). Shutter lag is on par or better than other Point-and-shoots I've used (hardly noticeable). Supports about 15 or so languages.
Pros:
- Very easy to use. Intuitive Menus and features.
- Decent low-light performance.
- Good color and auto adjustments.
- Nice in-camera feature set: Automatic digital red-eye removal, photo stitch, crop, etc (these work well enough for novices, but you'll probably want to use a computer based program if you are going to set it up)
- Relatively comprehensive and well laid out manual control mode (white balance adjustments are missing, but does have things like independent exposure controls and adjustable exposure bracketing).
- Relatively compact but not so small that it feels fidgety
- Built-in orientation sensor
Cons:
- Screen has a relatively low resolution (would give it 4.51 because of that)
- The High-ISO mode (selectable) was either too grainy or smoothed out for my liking in my test shots.
Final thoughts:
- Be sure to buy some decent rechargeable batteries with the camera. Alkaline AA's won't last long.
- The included Kodak software is OK, but a little clumsy. Picasa (free) is simpler/more efficient to use and has a very good feature set.
