(More customer reviews)Purchased the Philips BDP5005 slightly over 1 year ago. About a week after the warranty expired, the player ceased functioning. It has the latest firmware upgrades, it rests in a clean, well ventilated, dry location. It is apparently designed to fail. Have not been able to identify any parts that are broken, or any bad connections anywhere inside the device. It appears to function correctly until about 45 minutes to an hour into a movie. At that point it pauses, mutes and restarts the movie. I have found this to be a fairly common problem among owners, but there is no known solution yet found. Spare yourself the money, buy something else. I have a Sony BDP-S300 that is considerably older than the Philips, and with the continual firmware updates, it works without a hitch. I own Philips TV, stereo, etc, and have always been a Philips fan - but they cannot make a decent Blu Ray player, I advise buying a different brand all together. Please remember that Magnavox is the same product as Philips, and should likely be avoided as well.
