I was very excited about the prospect of upgrading my Acer AX1301-U1302 Desktop PC (Black) computer. Although I originally purchased the computer to function as a video server (both local and via PlayOn server) I quickly came to realize that the computing power was suitable for gaming as well as streaming video. The one downside to the Acer is a very modest integrated video card. As I was on a tight budget, a little research was in order. I immediately determined that this card was within my price-point AND was passively cooled by that heat sink. I liked the idea of saving power with the heat sink versus a fan cooled unit.
Much to my chagrin, the heat sink is actually too large to fit in the narrow space allotted in the computer. The space would need to be at least 1/2 inch larger to allow this card to fit. The pictures and illustrations do not due justice to the massive size of the heat sink.
Any future purchasers should examine there computer and ensure that there is ample space for the card.
I ordered PNY GeForce 9400 GT 1024MB PCI-Express 2.0 VGA + DVI Graphics Card VCG941024GXEB to replace this one. It does have a fan, but I'm sure it will fit and leave sufficient room for air circulation.
