(More customer reviews)I ordered this USB soundcard with some reservations after reading mixed reviews, some good, some excellent and some really sad experiences. Mine is a happy one when you consider the low price I paid. The sound quality might be better IF I get a better set of headphones or quality ear pieces. I purchased it for my 15" HP 505 Laptop which has crappy speakers and the headphones would barely get more volume than the speakers.
I have Windows Vista - and at first I was not getting any results when I plugged it in my LapTop. After tinkering with Vista's sound controls for playback - I simply made the USB soundcard my default source for speakers. A few other slight tweaks and after rebooting the sound was noticibly louder! Loud enough for me!!! I have no idea how good the mic input is, have not had an occasion to try it or worry with it. By the way - I am not real tech saavy on LapTops or PC's so its not too problematic if you have some experience with setting up software and doing small minor adjustments on your computer. Its not hard at all to set up IF you need to set it up. I understand some people simply plug it in with no problems whatsoever.
for less than $10 you cant expect super exotic sound or special effects or any of that. If more volume for your headphones is what you need then this is something you will want. The sound is not distorted or rattly - its fairly well clear. While it included a small driver install disk you dont need one if you run windows Vista or XP. It gets detected when you plug it in and installs the proper drivers. If not - you got the disk with drivers on it.
Last of all you can use it on your PC, its not LapTop exclusive. Useful if you wish you had mic and headset access on the front of your computer - if you have a USB port on the front - plug this USB soundcard in and you're good to go. Feels sturdy, no loose parts. Im happy with my purchase
