A lot of people have complained about it not wanting to work, but I would just go to the manufacturer's website and download the latest drivers. As far as the PVR software that comes with it, I must say, that even with my high-end, dual core system, I was unable to record a minute worth of footage before the sound went out of sync. This, however, isn't caused by the adapter, but rather, by the software that came with it. There is an update on the company website for it, but even after installing that, it still wouldn't capture video and audio that was in sync.
My solution was to get a program called "BeyondTV" by SnapStream. There are other programs out there, but this one has a decent price tag and a great interface. It also has a lot of features that make it easy to use and is more than capable of recording and scheduling recordings effortlessly and without losing sync along with excellent record quality.
With that installed and this adapter, you can expect this device to be more than suitable for your needs. You can even get a firefly remote from Snapstream to truly turn your PC into a PVR if you like. I never bought the remote, so I don't know how well it will work, but their PVR software is excellent.
I've knocked one star off for the incapable PVR software included and because KWorld never responded to my inquiry about recording footage and maintaining sync. Thankfully I came up with my own solution.
